Mobil Super 2000 High Mileage Extended Performance 10w30. It's good for preventing oil leaks in older vehicle and extends your oil change interval to 10,000 km (approx 6000 miles) Although I usually change it a bit earlier. I always keep a change or two on hand and only grab my brand when it's on sale.

I have a 94 geo prizm with 144k miles. I use 20w-50 conventional oil. What brand? What ever is on sale that day. Last oil change I put Penzoil. I do change my oil every 3k miles.
You don't need that heavy of an oil unless you're burning oil like no tomorrow and huge amounts of blue smoke are starting to appear from your tailpipe.

Just use what's recommended in the owners manual 5w30.

Valvoline Maxlife synth-blend 10w30 every 3,000 to 3,500 mi. Purolator One filters. Also started using Z-Max last oil change. That made a HUGE difference.
Zmax is pure snake oil.

To be more accurate, it's actually just basic mineral oil with some food coloring added.

Regardless, since I put it in, my city mileage went from 24.5 to 27, and the engine runs smoother and pulls harder. Keep in mind, my engine used to be in VERY POOR condition before the car was mine. The results obviously wont be the same for an engine in good condition.

I am using Pennzoil Ultra 10W-30 Full Synthetic right now with a Mobil 1 filter (paid 1.99 for it). I plan to run at least 7500 miles on this change.

Thanks for the reply's. My valve cover gasket was leaking, but i fixed it already. I been checking my oil for the past 500 miles and the level hasn't dropped. So i plan on going with a lighter oil next oil change. I use mobil 1 synthetic in my other cars. Do you think its too late to go synthetic at 144k miles?

No, I don't think so. Our 1MZ-FE (Sienna) had 262,190 miles when I finally made the switch from conventional to MaxLife full synthetic 5W-30. We're at 276,300 now. I've found that the choice of oil filter makes a huge difference, too. After experiencing a lot of valve clatter after the first start each morning, I learned that only a filter with a silicone anti-drainback valve will do. Wix and Purolator PureOne are my preference, and I hate the filters in orange cans!.

"do you guys believe in once you go synthetic you can't go back??"

Not really. I wouldn't be afraid to switch back but I'd keep an eye on things to see if anything changes.

No.

Switch to your hearts content.

It's never to late to switch to synthetic. But at that kind of mileage, a lot of wear and tear has already taken place so it's unlikely that synthetic oil is necessary at that point.

Don't bother with it. Just keep using convertional 5w30 or 10w30.

3000km? or miles? Dude your throwing away your money.

+1

Most conventional oils can run safely up to 8000km/5000miles safely.
