Hey guys.....just a random thought.....I have a 89 corolla 4wd wagon......and I want to put a turbo in my 89 GTS.....so I thought maybe I would trade the wagon for turbo and intercooler at the autowreckers.......but what turbos will fit into my GTS which ones are the best....and is this a good idea? Will I be able to just bolt on and go? I wish I knew more about cars..:(

no turbos will really "fit" anything, if you don't have a turbo kit, you are going to have to do some custom fab. to get it on your car.

It would be possible if there was a factory turbo version of your engine ever offered but there was not.
Say you wanted to use a turbo set up from a wrecked subaru. You would need the Turbo manifold (exhaust mainfold with a flange that bolts to a turbo), but the manifold would not bolt up to your engine because they are different. Also the piping to the intercooler would not fit around your engine. Also your ECU/air flow sensors/fuel system/enginge internals are not designed to support boost. You get the idea.

Say you wanted to pull all the supercharger parts off of a Gen1 MR2 with the 4a-gze. The manifold and piping would bolt up, but your 4a-ge doesn't have semi-forged pistons and lowerd compression like the gze, and your ecu and fuel cannot spport boost. If you wanted to do an engine swap you would have to contend with the conversion from MR to FF, etc.

Custom turbos and engine swaps can be done, but to start you will definitley need to do a lot of research on how your car works and what options are out there. Try reading some of the stuff here in the master corolla sticky and check out the tech section over at www.club4ag.com. Also check out some of the set-ups at www.turbo-corolla.com

man, your post there is almost the same as your screen name :D

a cheap and dirty setup (yes, it's proven to work) is to find a manifold with the correct flange on it for whatever turbo you decide to run..... find some higher rated CC injectors (i believe you have 2ohm in 89....) for some added fuel, then use a pressure switch (reads vaccuum) to turn the cold start injector on for added fuel when it senses boost..... then put the AFM in front of the turbo and you're ready to go... only "custom" parts you'll need are some mandrel bent tubing.... you can go with an intercooler, and i would reccomend it for anything above 5 or so PSI

also, to make things easier, find a turbo which is internally gated

yahoo.

easiest thing to do with VERY little advil rating?

buy a JDM GTZ front clip with the 4A-GZE and... voila! he is clean.
forced induction as well as JDM bragging rights.

Levin clips sell for about 1k USD here.

and yes, turbo kits are made for our cars.

also, you can fab any kit off the base of a civic turbo kit! has been done by someone here on his 20v.

aaand civic turbo kits run for about 500 USD.

IMO? gze swap.

okay that does seem real simple.....but what is a clip?
Im pretty illiterate on this car stuff still.

Allthough i've been following that other guys GTS monster engine posts....you know the noob that wants the most power outta his car without a turbo.
Man I sure have been learning lots that way.
I think once I actually start my mods I'll go that way first.....seems real simple...no fuel/air mapping...or figuring out boost......seems like a solid way to learn.

thanks for you impute though.

LOL yeah i stopped posting in his topics..

a clip is a cut from the firewall up... fenders, hood, bumper, lights... everything including the firewall up.

4A-GZE Levin front clip

learn first, then know where you want to go, how fast you want to get there and what machine you want to make to take you there.

LOL corny but i think its very cute. yes a very cute catch phrase that is.

So with the "clip" you can bolt on the 4agze without any fabricating then right?
Im I getting the idea of what a clip is...basically the front end of the car.....do I get it.....
and yes catchy catchy phrase.....
I really want a brand new skyline...thats a sexy fast beast.....I'd love to pull up to the line beside my buddy in his STI on race day with one of those. (but anyways lets keep to the topic)

well i don't need a full clip (which is i believe around 1,100 or 1,200 NOT shipped... and i needed it shipped).... the gze that i was looking for was $800 not including shipping.... also, no ecu and cut harness

it was cheaper when we did our group buy through someone else.... we got the gze, cut harness, no ecu (no biggie, wasn't worried), and transmissions (all including the supercharger and intercooler....) for $700 SHIPPED to my buddies door

even the mr2oc guys thought my motor was in great shape for being shipped over (including the guys mentioning venus auto)
