I can see one cable runs to the starter, where does the other one run to? How hard is it to get the starter cable off on a V6? Looks like getting to the bolt may be tough. I'm considering replacing the entire positive cable with a new factory cable, rather than trying to splice in to new battery terminal. Thanks for your help.

Don't know the answer, but I've had our 01 es300 for going on 5 years, it came with a generic brass positive clamp type, and it's still doing well.

The positive battery cable is not that difficult to replace: the full length of the cable (from the starter to the positive battery terminal) is just over a foot; and there're only two nuts holding it in place. But are you sure you need to replace the entire cable? It may be enough to replace just the terminal itself--which unbolts at the battery-end of the cable. The after-market replacement terminal runs about $8 or $10. By the way, if you cut the end of the cable, you have to replace or splice onto the cable because then, it's too short to reach.

What problem are you trying to solve? There is always one cable running directly to the starter, unfused. There will be another cable running to the fusible link block from where it will branch out to main fuse block, alternator, interior fuse block, heater. There may also be another cable running to the O2 sensor heater if you have AF O2.

Thank you. I was debating on changing battery terminal, or entire cable. Decided on terminal yesterday. Mechanic had installed a rigged terminal that would not allow positive battery terminal cover to go over top. In the process of righting the wrongs of these mechanics and also restoring the car back to a reliable condition.
