When I park in any parking lot, I'll always park on either side of shopping cart return stations or any end stalls even if it means walking across the entire parking lot.
I figure it's 50% chance that someone will dent my door.

Also, to prevent parking in crowded parking lots, I park far away from crowded stalls,
only to come back and fine a dozen other cars parked around me, (must be people
admiring my Highlander.)

Either in a spot next to a curb (an end spot) or as far away as reasonable without being too isolated. And then it's twice as aggravating when someone decides to park right next to you, not noticing the 10 other choices they had for parking in that area.

I don't park next to the shopping cart return things unless there's a curb and trees around them. I've seen people simply push the cart toward the return area from a distance (to save themselves some walking), only to have the cart hit a rock or something and it suddenly veers off to the side toward the parked cars. Those people don't mean to hit a car with the cart, but it can still happen.

Safely in my garage. 3 monthes and less than a about 900 miles driven......

Outside, as close to natural barriers as possible.

In my experience it doesn’t matter where I park there’s always a rusted out 84 Monte Carlo that will park next to me wherever I go.
I doubt any proud 84 Monte Carlo owner would want to park next to a family econo box.

I don't park next to shopping cart return stations because many people shoot the carts from distant or the station may be full so they have to leave the carts outside and they may roll to my car.

I don't park next to empty space because I don't know who may part next to me later.

I either park next to expensive cars or minivan. People drive expensive cars are more likely to take care of their cars so less likely to ding my car. Most of the time, the door that ding me is rear door but minivan have sliding rear doors so they can't ding. However, the HL don't have the molding to catch the front door. Therefore, front door can ding as well :(

If the elevation varies, the side of the parking lot which is highest. This is helpful for when doors of vehicles parked next to you may ding yours if swung out by gravity or when shopping carts roll towards your vehicle.

Away from everyone else if possible. End spots, middle of nowhere, higher end if on a slope, away from cart bays. No one gives a crap about dinging your door and, admittedly, sometimes accidents just happen. Best to be preventative.
