Which generation is the 98-02 corolla?

I think that according to the chassis code, the generation number can be determined. "ZZE110" The "ZZ" stands for motor class. The "E" stands for corolla class. The "11" stands for generation:confused: ??? And the "0" stands for no revisions. Is that right?

that would make no sense because there's AE110's :confused:
98-02 is a Gen 8 Corolla.

I can remember from AE86-up so it's Gen5=84-87, Gen6=88-92, gen7 93-97, gen8 is 09-02, gen 9 is 03+

And actually the 98-00 is 8 and the 01-02 is 8.5 because they changed the front facia, dropped the VE trim and added the "S" trim, and added VVT-i to the 1zz-fe.
Actually I don't remember if this was in 2000 or 2001.
:thumbup:
it was for the 01 model year.
^ Cool so I was right:cool:
I gots a classic because it's the first Corolla with VVT-i and the first Corolla S:D
vurrah good :)
i remember
ZZ = engine code
E = i think it means Electronic fuel injector
110 = chassy code

yeah, ZZ is engine code, but teh E is the actual car (e=corolla, w is i tihnk MR2, i think T is celica, and some supras, while s is teh rest of eh supras, V is camry's....)

and then 110 is the chassis code like u said
well, now i know i had some of it down. 110 is only the chassis code. Well thanks guys, cleared everything up! I guess i got a 8th gen then. awesome

neg . petes as well as my friends 00 corolla has the VVTI engine on it.. I know cause I checked..
Oh well I was right about 2001 being the year they dropped the VE and first offered the S trim. :dunno:
what does the "i" stand for in cars? "ingine?" I have seen it everywhere and it would seem to make sence except for the fact that engine is spelled with an "e" (BMW 325i, VVTI,
The "i" in VVT-i stands for "intelligence" as in: "Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence"
And as far as I know, the "i" in BMWs stands for Fuel Injection, which is why every BMW in the sedan series has an "i" in it, they don't have carburated cars anymore.

By the way it's spelled: "engine" ;)
