hey guys I installed my hitch last year. Im looking to add a Brake Controller to my setup. I allready have the 7way. Im looking to see your setups. I want to be ready for the season.

BTW: The tacoma did awsome with 3500#'s (generator and all equipment) Though I did hear and fell the shitty ABS kick in when I hit a small pothole when stoping

nice. most people mount them where that little useless pop out comparment is under the fog light switch. there is some space behind there if u want it hidden. that is where i plan to mount mine when i get it. look into a tranny cooler also.
 Does anyone have a "plug and play model and harness?

Thanks

Hey Lotust, the Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller is rated # 1 and comes with a Plug & Play vehicle specific harness. You can also change the screen colors.

I also got a Tekonsha, not the P3 tho. The Salesman talked me out of spending another 60 bucks. I couldn't believe it. I mounted mine in the pocket in front of the shift.
damn lotust, did you get a signing bonus for being a moderator!!!!!

Lotust, you have awesome timing with this thread! I was just about to post up the same thing. I'll be getting a trail rig next weekend and I'll be looking into a trailer brake for towing it. :D
I mounted my tekonsha (regular prodigy, not the p3 model) to the cubby under the switches on the left side of the dash. I have the tow package, so the wiring harness just plugs in, and I coiled the excess wiring and stuck it in the actual cubby. Then I bought another cubby, so when I'm not towing the trailer, I just unplug the wiring and pop the whole cubby out, and pop the new one in. I like being able to remove it easily when no in use.
It's a little in the way of my left knee when I'm getting in the truck, but it was the best place I could find for it. I have a picture or 2 laying around, I'll find and add them.
i just rented this heavy ass bobcat that weighed well over 6500lb's with the trailer from home depot, and they gave me this wireless brake controller that is specific just for the trailer. i thought it was awesome cause i had never seen that before. it plugs right into the cigarette lighter and u can control it just like a normal brake controller. i thought it was pretty cool.

Sweet the season is almost here! post up some pics when you get it. I will post up an install if I have time. I will post up what controller I get too at least.

I like that idea. Thanks for the reply! Did you have the Tow package allready? I would like to see how is disconnects.

Im going to look into the wireless one. Do you remember the make of it? Im guessing it woks off Inertia. I bet there not cheap.

pretty big bed lotust.
break the trailer in yet?

Not yet. I did kinda try to coax the wife into it but we were in cleaning mode :naughty:
FYI: Here is a good website that explains alot to a Brake controller Noob like me

I bought some of those 3M picture hanging strips (it's kinda like velcro) and mounted it under the dash by my right leg, right under that empty tray. I used 4 strips, 2 on the top of the brake controler and 2 under the dash. I unplug and unvelcro it when I am not using it and put it in the glove box. The 3M strips are great because you can remove them anytime without any marks or residue.
I mounted mine in the cubby in front of the shifter below my Sirius tuner. Its out of the way easy to get to.

Where did you run the wiring? Did you just drill through the back of the cubby?
My setup...........

I know mine isn't the best one out there but I love the fact that I don't have to mount it under my dash. I have a Starcraft 14RT that weighs in at about 3500lbs fully loaded with my motocross bikes on it. I tow about once a month and travel about 200 miles each time I tow. I live in NM and most of the trip is in the mountains so a brake control is a must. I've been very happy with how this one performs. Again, I know there are better ones out there but for the price and mounting options, I feel like it was the best choice. I can't post any photos because my truck is at the dealer (park/neutral swith went bad). I have mine under the driver's seat, held in place with velcro. Let me know if you want me to post some pics. I should have my truck back on Wednesday. The link below is to the page with the controller at Etrailer.com. They are great to deal with.
