Just bought this Corolla 2003 S for two weeks, with 40K miles on it. It looks new. I haven't driven it since I drove it home. This morning after I started it, it didn't move at all even though the engine was on, the manual brake released....It didn't move under R, D, L or N. The transmission oil looked normal, the warning lights were not on. I stepped on gas and it still didn't move. When I stepped on the gas, the rotation meter looks normal so I guess it's nothing wrong with transmission. Someone suspects it's something to do with the brakes. Any idea? It's just so strange and drive me nuts. I bought it not cheap and haven't really driven it!!! Thanks for your advice.

Does the engine RPM increase when you push the gas pedal? You should feel it shift into gear when you go from park to reverse or drive. If you dont feel it shifting at all then i would suspect a transmission issue. If you feel it shift into gear but still not move then i would think its more of a brake issue. Did you have the parking brake (emergency brake) on while it was sitting?

the corollas run with dead tail lights. If the car doesn't move when you gas it ... it's not the e brake. Then again if you push the gas it should eventually move if it's a brake issue. Maybe it's not going in gear.
