Since my engine blew, i have a question.
Wich engines besides the original one, would fit without any modificatinon. I belive i have GT-S 4A-GE engine. My car is `85 corolla GT 1.6 liter with 16v.
I wanna know would any other toyota engine fit, if the wiring/electronics stay? Maybe i can change only the block (a different block from other engine (different volume, non 16v, but mine 16v head with my wiring)?

any info would be good

Thanx.

if you wanna stick to your original electronics, you can just try to locate a late model 4AG block (7 rib) and build it with your original head (if it's still ok!). the only motors i can think of that would fit in your car without modification in the engine bay are the 4A-GE (T-VIS and non-TVIS, AFM and MAP), 20V (silvertop and blacktop) and the 4AGZE (AFM or MAP version). but most of this motors need extensive wiring. goodluck man and wlecome to TN!

btw, if i were you, i'd spend the money and get a blacktop AE111 20V 4AG-E with a 6-speed tranny!

thnx for advice, but i dunno the engine codes + i want to install the engine and sell the car. i dont want to mess around the wiring.

better write like: the 1.3 liter engine from 1985-1988 corolla and starlet will fit without any modifications needed.

thanx again

for better understanding of the engine codes see this thread:
http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t42748.html

Since yours is a 4A block, you will need to stick with another 4A - the ones out of your car arent too bad especially if you dont want to do any wiring work.

If you want to go newer and get the 20v 4A-GE (1993-99 depending on the head), you will need to do some wiring work. Also, if you are looking at putting a turbo or supercharger in there, i would reccomend the Silvertop (1993-1997, Japanese Levins only) as it has heavier internals than the blacktop (1997-1999, Japanese Levin Also).

So the answer is probably no... you would need to get the same engine to keep the wiring in there.

so u basically are saying i could change this block with any 4A block without any mods???
Where exactyly can i see the engine code, where it is located?
wich 80s and early 90`s regular/cheap toyotas use the 4A block that could work with my head/electronics.

I just wanna cheap repair and sell it, so i dont need turbo or expensive engine.

What i'm saying is that any 4A block will fit in without having to change engine mount locations, so yes.. Basically any 4A block that came with a 'G' head will fit your head (so long as it is an earlier block ie. minus oil squirters etc.). other than that... they should fit without any major mods.

ANY 4a block... whether it had a c, ge, f, fe head will bolt in.... however, a 4a-gze or a 20V is going to need some re-wiring and a new ecu.... a smallport 4a-ge will need some as well....

on the silver compliance plate... usually on the top right of the firewall in the engine bay... it will have the VIN, Engine, Trans and Build date, among other things (see image below for what your looking for)
