Hi,

I have a 2016 Corolla S Technology package, which comes with P215/45R17 tires, and I've started looking for winter tires (and wheels), and they ain't cheap...

The standard S model comes with P205/55R16, and I was wondering if it's possible to install this size of tires on the car?

Thoughts?

Thanks.

That smaller size will work fine if you want to have an extra set of 16 inch wheels that will fit the 16 inch tire. The size you listed won't fit on the 17 inch wheel though.

I couldn't get 215 45r17 for my car when I needed snow tires. I was able to get 205 50r17 for my stock 17 inch s wheels though. They are a little taller and were much cheaper than the oe tire size. They were about 130 a piece instead of 180 a piece.

If you want to use your stock 17" wheels than I would get a set of 205/50R17 tires. I run that size for my winter tires and they are a much better size than the 215/45R17 tires which are too small in diameter. That would allow you to get a better set of wheels in a wider width for your summer tires and a more proper 225/45R17 summer tire. If you want to use a 15" wheel than a 195/65R15 tire can be used or a 205/55R16 can be used with a 16" wheel.

195/65R15 25.0" diameter
205/55R16 24.9"
205/50R17 25.1"
215/45R17 24.6"
225/45R17 25.0"

As you can see the 215/45R17 tire is too small compared to the other proper sizes.

Don't mean to Hijack, but I guess I am. I have a set of 205/65/16 studded snows from our totaled Camry :-( Wondering if these ( just the tires, not the wheels) will fit a 2014 Corolla LE, which is now running 205/55/16. the 65's are about 1.6" larger dia, so I know the spedo will be off. I am not sure of any rubbing or driveability issues with the larger dia.

If not, I'll sell the wheel / sensor / tires for the camry as a package, and buy 15" wheels / tires / sensors for winter or the corolla.

Thanks

I wouldn't use that size at it's way too tall a tire. You would be better off to sell them and buy the proper size.

I have a set of 225/45/R17 on my 2014 corolla S. They are on audi rims I had to get extra lug nuts to fit the rims better and hub centering rings because the holes in these rims are bigger.
I found them on craigslist for $250, at that price I figured it was worth it for the extra set of rims alone. I had them balanced and inspected at a tire shop, had them for 2 seasons now with no issues.
I have to admit I wasn't crazy about the look at first but I got used to it when people are parked on a snowy hill and I am just cruising by.

You can compare sizes on a website like https://tiresize.com/comparison/

P205/55R16 is the original tire size for a 11Th generation Corolla. 2016 Corolla S Technology come 17 inches mags as a option.
