(NEW members Welcome to TN!)

This is a short introduction to help you navigating this forum more efficiently:
First of all welcome to ToyotaNation!

This is one of the largest online Toyota communities, we are one of the more active sites on the internet.
Because of this we would like to ask you to take a few minutes to look over this information.

First off, feel free to start a thread to introduce yourself to the other members, in your respective sections.

If you should need an answer to a question you would like to ask?
Please try the "Search" feature first. The search button can be found here:

If you would like to find DIY, Maintenance, photo's, TSB info, please check in the sticky area which is located at the top of the forum page:

If after doing a search and looking in the Sticky section you still do not find the answer to your particular question then you may consider starting a new thread.

Please remember that when you start a New Thread, be as clear as possible in your title.
This will help our search engine if ever anyone needs to look for this particular information.

Good Luck!

And welcome aboard!

you might tell them that when they start a new thread title to include in the title brands, manufacturers, or KEY/descriptive words.

for example, if I had a question about BFG KM2 size options on my 6" lift....my thread title would be "BFG KM2 on 6 inch lift and size opinion needed" just so when members see the title and before they click it will be known what we're gonna be reading about within the thread.

That is an excellent short little tutorial complete with pictures for the newb to find their way.

One question though, if they can't find the sticky section without 1st reading your sticky, then how they gonna learn anything?

Is there anyway to send that info in an email when someone joins. I know some sites require that you give an email address when signing up and then you have to respond to confirm before you get an active sign on.

Just a thought.

I like it! Good Work! I still like the idea that someone had about not letting people post for a certain amount of time after first joining. This way they can get the hang of things before jumping right in.

Im not sure they will see the PM and or if this is even possable with the forum software. But Its step in the right direction.

I forget who on this forum posted it. Its pretty funny. I wish someone with Skills could redo the .gif to represent the backround of this forum.

Unfortunately it wont help. Good effort though.... people just wont take the time to look.

there 2 reasons why people join a forum:

#1 they have a "huge problem/concern"(or they think) so they post ASAP

#2 they sold a car/truck that had a forum and moved here so they know whats up, so they wont look at that either.

I found the email I received from TN when I first joined, and while it did mention using the search function and other tips for new users, Toku's write-up is much more user friendly and eye-catching.

Here is a copy of the email:

I don't remember if I read the whole email when I first got it, but something like what Toku wrote up would have caught my eye, and tutorials for first time users are always helpful. Any reason why that couldn't be added to the welcome email?

Nice job Toku, I think it is definitely a step in the right direction.

New users should be forced to take a short "tutorial" on the search feature before they are allowed to make a new post (it should be part of the registration process). There should even be a mini quiz/test at the end of the tutorial simply so they can't blast through it without looking at it. Keep it simple, but at the same time force the new user to pay attention to what is being shown to them.

I know at my company we have to do short automated security "tutorials" throughout the year and the ones that have a mini quiz at the end always force you to pay attention to what is actually being shown to you. The ones with no quiz at the end never work because people just blast through them to get to the end and never look at what is being shown to them.

Toku, I think it’s a step in the right direction. It won’t weed out all the ones cj99 mentioned but it will help. Good work.

Reflecting back on the first time I got onto a forum and after reading some of the questions here, you might want to break out DIY and TSB into what they stand for. Maybe I’m lowering the bar too here. And finding the PM area would be harder than finding the sticky one.

Also the word site should be “sites.”

Best idea  I think Toku's sticky post should be sent as part of the email registration process, and then again as the 1st PM as a reminder.
Thanks for all the great in put!

Sorry it was only a rough draft. I wrote it while I was on the was out to my sons soccer practice.

I'll try and incorporate some of the other ideas that you guys gave!

I really like the idea of sending this to New users when they register! That would be a great idea.

I need to get together with the Admins, and see what we can come up with?

But I do think something like this would really help!
