Looks like you've got a critter building a nest. Pull it out. I have twice gotten mice in my car over the years. Remove the nest, put out a trap or two.

Yeah, looks like a rodent nest. Wire?... Like electrical wire? I'd be more worried about where they got it from.

Hold on a sec... There *is* an electric motor there for the cooling fan. There's a remote possibility it's grenaded and the wire is from it. It's impossible to tell from the pic, it's zoomed in too close. It does sorta look like the copper winding wire from an electric motor.

It looks like it is in between the radiator and possibly a transmission cooler or some such to me. I think it must be windings from the fan or perhaps someone put a filter in there to block air in the winter? It kind of looks like an active carbon filter media to me. Or a mouse house. Try putting a snake in there, that should take care of any mouse problems :D

I used aluminum flashing to build a baffle the keep squirrels off my bird table.. Every day they climb the pole and chew pieces off the aluminum flashing and there is a pile of metal pieces at the bottom of the pole. Rodents can chew through huge sheets of metal.. Yours looks like a nest though...

A buddy of mine had a critter chew through his PS hose. PS fluid spilled over his exhaust and caused an under engine fire when he drove the car. Fire Dept showed up and finished wrecking his car, of course, in the process of putting out the fire. Pesky critters...

I had 5 chipmunks move in over the summer, they wrecked my siding and all the insulation..I spent 2 days fixing it and then they did it again next day..same spot. I bought a LIVE trap and trapped all five in a few hours..I held deportation proceedings, found they all qualified and moved them 5 miles to a nice new home (My Congressman's yard)...haven't seen em since..
Every time I open the garage doors, they stormed in and took over the wood pile in there.
Chipmunks are FAR worse than squirrels

Power steering hose is no joke... heck I would get life without if I had just got life insurance on her the week before ! Judge would say Chipmunks ? get out of here... LIFE you son of gun !
