I bought a new 2008 Tundra with a type 2 radio which means that XM radio can be added. I called Toyota Service and they get $477 for the kit installed. That seems like a lot of money. Is it available for less? I sure like the old time radio shows on Ch. 164.

Yes, there are kits available that are about half the price. It just consists of the antenna and in some cases a modulator box (that has the XM and radio ant. go into the same port. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the back of the radio has a standard satellite connector where you could plug in one you buy from BestBuy, online, or from a pre-existing kit you may already have.

I have an XM Roady that has FM modulation, or cassette tape(remember those?) adapter. Can I plug the output from it into my auxiliary port and have it play through my radio?

An installer at Best Buy said there is a TERK/Audiovox unit that is a hidden xm box that you buy plus a Toyota Tundra harness adapter that allows you to control and run XM through your factory head unit with SAT controls. He has installed them (said 80$ would cover it).

I'm in the same boat and doing research to find specifically what package is definitely compatible and priced right. So far the information i've run across is a little vague as to what specific package is best/compatible.

I'll let you know when I get it nailed down.

Hey Guys Don't know if this is too late or not or if it will even help. I have the XM ExpressEZ radio that they sell for 19.00 and all I had to do was buy a cord with 1/8 inch plugs on either end . Plug one end into the aux jack and one into the radio. Just used the regular XM antenna and pressed the Aux button on the radio and bingo the best reception I have ever had! That radio has its own FM modulator in it so it works without all the fancy stuff. A velcro mount on my dash(the radio is very light) and I have a great setup that I didn't dump hundreds into.

I know this is a stale thread but wondered if anyone solved the aftermarket XM install issue. I also have Type 2 radio but no idea who makes it or what connectors are available. Any thought appreciated.
