today while driving home from work i began to notice a hue loss of power in my car.....as i pulled up to a stop sign...it died....i started it up and it died again....i then turned down my radio and heard and felt a massive vibration.....then as i began to accelerate from the stop sign i heard as very loud rattle.........when i got into my garage i pulled the plugs and did a compression check.....

i have no doubt that the engine is toast.....i am done with this car....onto anouther

actually i just finished an engine swap
...136K on it...put 300 on the motor since the new one.....life dont get any better

Timig belt slip? The engine will run but with very loud rattles and stuff if the timing belt jumps 2-3 tooths... it will work but VERY bad...
How can an engine quit like that, since you've mentioned that you did an engine swap? Overheated, lost oil pressure? Engine will die either from sliped, broken timing belt, long lasting hard detionation or pinging, loss of oil (or driving always with oil BELOW low mark), driving with insufficient coolant...
Did you have loud pinging or something like that for some time? It can mess up the piston and valves... If the engine is working normally (not overstressed - if you drive every day all the time on red line, but I think you didn't), with correct oil levels (regardless if its using oil or not), with correct coolant levels, without pinging, with changed timing belt, normal spark plugs and solid fuel it cannot brake like that! I know a guy whos engine guzzled a quart of oil every 200 miles, but it didn't brake - he simply did regular maintenace and checked oil levels every day. He had low compression (but not very bad), still engine worked normaly and it didn't broke!!

after work today im going to pull the valve cover off and see if i can see any noticable head damage...from there ill decide what happens next.....see, i still have our old 300K mile engine laying in the back of my truck....i can get heads and stuff from that

Im sure u can convince him... my car is still technically my dad's (under his name and owe him $4k for it) and i convinced him that it needed a 20v...

my car was legally his when i did the motorswap... however, to make it legal to drive we had to put it in my name (no egr... and my ecu doesn't go into idle mode, lol.... and it runs rich... so it didn't pass emissions)

umm.. I'd get my money back for that motor... unless of course you did your own swap. :(

i got it from the wrecking yard i work at...so thtas no big deal.... i hate to say it, but im begining to wonder if this lil rolla is worth keeping around.....

Get a better car.

Or swap the 4a-ge in. I don't see what your dad could have against it, it's just a Corolla engine, it's not like a V8 or something.

meh...another car....currently im driving MY 90 escort....its a pos 3 speed auto....but it works.....i have found many fun things to do to it :thumbup:

and as of now, i still dont know whats wrong with the Corolla....still havent taken off the head:lol:

do you think its possible that the belt or distributer sliped?
