I know they had the motor in a LIMITED number of the mk3's in Japan. the 1JZGTE is 280hp twin turbo.

Now my quesion...does ANYONE know where I can find more info on this motor and if it will bolt up to my tranny? I've got an 87 NA supra. I realize this is a tall order, but if I can, I think I'm going to be one of the first (that I've seen) to use this beast

One thing, I'm in the US....I don't know what that translates to up here, or wether I'm going to be able to get it at all. If all else fails I'll go with the 2JZGTE...but I really want this little oddball engine

how much did it cost to ship it?? where are u located? i'm in cali

yes it bolts on the R154 tranny.

and I don't think 1J is an expensive engine.
comparing with Honda's B series, even 2J is considered cheap :))

In the US the 1JZ is about 800 to 1400 dollers that not including ECU and Harness. But the 2JZ is 2000 to 3000 dollers. And yes only the R154 tranny bolts up thats the 7MGTE (turbo) tranny. I know 2 guys that have the 1JZ in there MKIIIs. they are very fast and very good engines. but you will break your drive shaft if you are two hard on it. I did it and one of my buddys did it.

hey guys the r154 tranny doesn't instantly bolt on to a 1jz, you have to swap the bellhousings and the clutch setup is mix and match remember guys 3.0 vs. 2.5 liter displacement this info might not be efficient enough but i also is in the midst of doing this same swap. also if this motor is going into a left hand side driven car you have to extend the wire harness 3-6 feet or you can purchase an upgraded wireharness from suprasport.com plus you must send them your old harness. they also have tuners who can make a 7m wireharness work with a 1jz but you haven't got all the bugs out because you have to worry about fuel cut and all that other jibberish. so i myself is going to install a standalone. you can check out this website for this swap 1jz-gte.us this website cross references the 7m and 1j but you must download some type of adobe reader to see the references. then if you want you can go to yahoo search and type in 1jz manual and you will find a website with some european guys who did this swap into a left hand side driven mk3 and he can take you in depth with this swap plus these are the same gentlemen who make outfitted harnesses for the 1jz on suprasport.com

sorry jeeves i'm in the midst of this swap and a friend of mine put me on to this website and as i was scrolling thru all 34 pages i replied to almost all the 1jz threads without realizing that these threads have some years on them already and i also thought i could learn more about this swap if i replied to them and all in all the canadian side supras have most of the sickest 1jz swaps all the u.s. guys have done this swap successfully but when you read between the lines the u.s. guys did this swap half ass

R U Kidding?

ok lets get into a battle over who does the better swap, that is like saying that your cars are cooler just cuz they are from the mother land canada! Dude stay on the subject that we are all here to share our information not to get into a stupid battle over which country does a better F***ing engine swap common grow up.

its not the country...its the mechanic, america houses alot of sh!t mechs who think a 1JZ can be treated the same as a 440 Mopar...but like anywhere there are good and bad mechanics, shop around and dump enough cash into any engine swap and you'll have a better running car.

hey man i'm not trying to cause any problems on this site i'm just giving my opinion on this swap and due to some of my research guys in the u.s. where i'm from just drop a 1jz motor just to be different from some mk3 owners and you can even see it for yourself the canadian dudes drop 1j's and they're whoopin some ass on the track. look there's a guy in nevada if i remember correctly and he did the 1j swap and he claims to have spent 25,000 US dollars and he posted his timeslips and he's only doing 14's he's doing them consistantly but now i ask you, if you spent 25grand on your supra what would you expect the supra to do on the quarter mile also knowing you're a good driver and the tuning is up to par? and once again i'm not trying to pick fights with anybody or put them down shit who knows maybe i'll be another half ass 1j, 7m swapper. oh yeah forgot to tell you i'm in queens new york and yes i do still believe that some of our canadian supra owners still do a meaner 1j swaps than u.s. tuners because in the states people do 7m's or 2j swap barely 1j's. shoot even jeeves tried to smack me back into reality jeeves ask me before stock vs. stock why would you spend 5grand on another motor just to get 50 more horses when what i have under the hood is just as good with the potential already there

#18 ·
hey mkIII_driver sorry for opening my mouth and re-opening this thread but you think what you think because i'm still sticking with my story. but i'm just saying in the states yes there is a lot of 1j owners but not very fond of this swap. once again sorry and please don't set me up in the front line like i'm some kind of bad guy because if we can't talk about it here where else can we talk about it?

hey man its not like i was trying to tell you to F**k off or anything its just that when it comes down to it there might be some guys in canada that do have the better 1jz swap but then again there maybe people in U.S. That have the same or possibly better done swap its not something that you can just boldly put out there. I only say this because i did a 1jz swap on a 89 cressida. And that thing kicked ass until i got t-boned comming into a intersection by a drunk girl. that also was in oine of my classes in college. my car was gone and they wouldnt let me claim the 1jz because i didnt report it to them so they could raise my mothly payment on insurance. That car ran its ass off i took on cars all day long a wooped their asses. Excluding the Z06 vettes and other such beast cars that are bitch. I say that because they win and are all excited about it when they spent about 5-6 times what i did. Its all good thought my new project will smoke them(hopefully)
