My 2006 Highlander 4cyl. has had the check engine light coming on for about 2 years now. I cannot remember the code right now, but it says bad emissions from the catalytic converter. I replaced both of the oxygen sensors and the same code keeps coming back. So, I guess it is time to replace the catalytic converter. On this model, the converter is attached to the manifold, so the entire assembly has to be replaced. Have any of you replaced this assembly? If so, how difficult was it?

Well, I went ahead with the catalytic converter replacement this weekend. It was time consuming because of all the things that have to be taken off, but it really was not too difficult. I got the tatalytic converter on-line from Toyota Parts Barn for $330 with shipping. The dealer wanted $420 plus $40 tax. I also had to get the exhaust manifold gasket and exhaust pipe gasket from Autozone for $30 total. One of the manifold studs is blocked by the altenator, so that had to come off. It took about 2.5 hours from start to finish. So far the Highlander runs great.
