Cleaned Throttle Body....whats With The High Idle??

I cleaned my throttle body and now my idle is at 1000 rpm when it's supposed to at around 750-800.
I put the idle screw at it's lowest point, but that does nothing(it was almost there anyways)
Ive read a a thread where this happens, I just hope it goes back to where it's supposed to be!
....higher idle=bad mpg

I have an 88' 3sfe 5-speed BTW...........................

somebody might have moved the butterfly stop screw
 I cleaned out the throttle body myself and before I did it the idle was fine.
I drove the car for a good 40 miles and still a high idle. I reset the ECM, but that didnt help either.
Then I thought if I adjust the butterfly stop screw, I can lower the idle.....when I backed it out, it didnt rest on it anymore, meaning that the butterfly was at full closure and couldnt go down any further.
......But I think I figured it out. The gunk/dirt that was causing the butterfly/gas pedal to stick, also created a great air tight seal....and now that I cleaned it off, the butterfly is now allowing the intake to suck in some air even with it closed, hence causing the idle to go up (more air=equals more gas=equals higher idle).
That's where the ECM is supposed to adjust to this, but as of yet hasnt.
Im gonna try and reset it once again to see what happens. I read an older thread and a couple of people have experienced similar issues, and one guy report that by the end of the night, it went back down to normal, and the other guy claimed that reseting the ECM did the trick.

Sorry for the long post.........:blah:

One more thing that's odd......when I start her up, she ildes where it's supposed to be(750-800) once warmed up, but when I tap the pedal, it settles at about 1000.....

Check for worn throttle shaft bushings/ bent cable
I figured it out.....I may not be able to explain why, but nonetheless I now know why it does what it it does.
For some reason when the car is running, the lever that operates the butterfly doesn't always go back to the stop screw......usually ONLY when the throttle is lightly tapped it does this , but if you give it enough gas, it's able to go all the way back to the stop screw.....which is understandable do to the increased force on the spring.

.....But the odd thing is that when the car is NOT running, it hits the stop screw no matter how little or how much you pull the lever back.:wtf:

I pulled the intake hose yet again and sprayed some more throttle body cleaner to the sides of the butterfly shaft, and it seems to help it a bit.
I guess Ill just live with it.......
than for the help guys

depens where it winds up, sometimes its centered and it goes shut, sometimes it gets to one side and the blade catches in the bore and it idles hi, 5 speed cars are great for doing that

hmmmm....interesting.
There's a gen2 at this junkyard that Im about take the throttlebody off of, your helping me decide.
....And why are the 5 speeds notorious for this??

Ive come to the conclusion that it's my isc(idle speed control).....but at $180 (and that's the price my buddy gets and he has a shop)
Ive decided to leave it be, 900 rpm is easy to live with.......maybe I will scour the local junkyard for one, but Im not spending that kind of money unless it gets worse!

have you found the screw under the rubber plug yet?
About 4 years ago when I owned a '90 Cam 3s-fe;)
I have the screw tightened all the way down just to get it to idle at 900......
Im ok with it the way it is, 900 is do-able, on the other hand, if it idled at anything above 1 grand, then Id have to do something about it!
I bought the car for 250 cash, so I dont want to go crazy with turning it into a 1200 dollar car.....after all, the car is 18 years old.....Besides I already put some money into it with a new distributer(the old one was leaking oil like a siv!...and not just the O-ring, but the whole thing was leaking really bad), and a new timing belt(including the usual seals, timng belt tensioners, and water pump...only paid $235 to do it profeesionally BTW)
I will ride it out for as long as I can, and when it finally dies, then I will get another Yota for sure!!!!.......probably a later model 5-speed Corolla....even better on gas ;) )

I got lucky with this car, A/C is ICE cold, and the power moon/sunroof still works great!!
All in all, I love this car and Toyota in general, the Japanese make great long-lasting economical cars!!!

just a thought.. have you checked for vacum leaks? I remember on my car I have a vac hose disconnected and idled preaty high. I think one way of check is by spraying the area with starting fluid like they do with carberated cars.
Im pretty sure it's the ISC, but I could be wrong. When I get a chance Ill check out the vacumm hoses. Im willing to try anything........and you just might be on to something!
