Gen 6 SE Owners: Do You Get No Respect?

Does it piss off any other Gen Six (in particular) SE owners, with their rides decked out in a sports trim with the sideskirts, fog lamps, tint and such, that when tooling down the road or ridin' on the freeway, the vehicle seems to get no respect from other drivers?

Sure, I've had a few people say "nice car" at washes and stuff, but for the most part, just no one gives a shit that the ride is brand new, shiny and decked out with chrome and all; especially these truck drivers in huge, jacked up pickups...just today, I was driving out to a lawyer's office for an issue my girl had to take care of, and as soon as I began to merge onto the highway here in Vegas, I noticed a new white G35 sedan on my ass who couldn't wait to get around me once the freeway came in -- then he speeds into the middle lane like at 100 at least and flies away from everyone else, leaving me in my pittiful little 08 SE V6 feeling "unappreciated" if you know what I mean. But this goes on all day out here; people speeding and coming off the lines at red lights when they turn green like banshees out of hell, attempting to blow me and my SE into the weeds at every single chance they get.

I feel because my ride isn't "customized" enough that these assholes simply have no respect for the ride and so they blow past it without a care in the world -- do you guys whose Generation Sixes are completely tricked out get the same lack of respect experience?

By the way, speaking of the G35, I saw a brand new G37 coupe today --- WOW that ride is hot....:eek:

tl/dr.

No. I do not feel the car unappreciated. It is a CAMRY. I bought the car so it would not necessarily stand out. Seriously.

You bought a shiny, bright Blue Ribbon METALLIC vehicle with sporty cues so it WOULDN'T stand out? That's what you're telling me?

Everyone stares at my camry lol. Even when I go to the market or bank, regular oldies ask about my car. If only I had the v6 to back up the looks rofl.

and for the post right above me, i don't think he got the camry for looks too. I mean, with that money, he could've gotten something a lot flashier and a bit faster. Probably got the sportpackage as any other owner does, for individuality. Like how BMW offers sportpackages with the blue, and it looks 10x better than cars without, but it doesn't really stand out. He got the sportpackage/color so his car could look 10x better, but not necessarily to stand out.

just my 100 dollars and 2 cents :)

You do realize some people are just assholes, and that it has nothing to do with what you're driving...

Furthermore, did you buy the car for yourself or for everyone else?
Why so eager to gain everyone's acceptance?

#10 · (Edited by Moderator)
Okay...meaning what?

To some yes. To some others, individuality? Theres a bunch of reasons why people get what they do. For instance.

My mother got her car in a bright color, because she wanted to distinguish her car from the others at the supermarket (seriously lol)

Most people will get it because its not that common and etc. Plus, the camry will not get respect from a lot of people cuz.

1) Its a camry.
2) most people are not car guys like us. almost 90% of the population can't tell the difference between a Camry SE and a Camry CE. Shoot, they can't even tell the difference between the Camry and the Accord.
*Sigh* I suppose I can accept this...thanks Peach...

You're right about most people not even knowing the difference between an SE and CE....

Wow...I wish I had that kind of reaction; perhaps it's because I live in a place where Maseratis, Ferraris and Lambourghinis are everyday appearances in the local parking lot...

and for the post right above me, i don't think he got the camry for looks too.

Huh? I don't understand what you're saying here...he did NOT buy an SE for looks?

It's not really about that per se, just trying to justify the added expense of all the extra styling cue equipment in that if the point was not to turn heads and gain a bit of "curb appeal," then what was the point?

thats true about most people not knowing the diff between SE vs CE/LE/XLE

i parked next to a XLE, same color as mines... my friend came up and compares my car vs XLE he said mines looks better, but when we asked this other girl what she thought she didnt see the difference:disappoin

Same here. I spent tons of money to get where my car is now.

I get all kinds of great comments about my bone-stock Barcelona Red SE V6:

Image

Lots of compliments, all the time.

Heck, and on the freeway, I've seen more fast-lane-blockers get out of my way with this red SE than I've ever seen with any other car. It's been great!

Wow...well, good for you -- I am jealous!

Seriously, though, the situation on my highways is the complete opposite from what you are experiencing; the guys hooking up Benzes, 300Cs, Altimas and Beemers here have absolutely no respect for my Blue Ribbon SE on the highway...

Your Barcelona Red (I almost went with that) is completely stock?

i get stares on my stock kit SE camry ;) all the time. m5s, porsches, m3s, g35s and i like the nod and thumbs up! lol

in all seriousness, i dont mind the stare up or stare down from the other people who have a bit more souped up ride than i do. hey it is a camry after all, it suits my needs of me wanting to have a car that has limited or no parts so that i wouldnt be modding the hell out of...(yeah right!)

well, the point of the said packages is really to appeal to the customer more than for the customer to be able to brag about it. for sure it is one thing to say you have a fully decked out 335i sedan with a full ACS kit or Hamann or whatnot, but you have to realize too that these people who do buy these things, is because they want it for themselves primarily (or so i want to think and believe). i dont think i have ever met any guy here who goes on and says i want to buy a fully loaded SE camry or whatnot to show off to my neighbours and peers. that sounds entirely preposterous.

"Furthermore, did you buy the car for yourself or for everyone else?

isn't the point of adding these so called extra styling cues is to appeal to the customer who rides and drives that car? turning heads is sort of an extra and value added benefit. but then again, if a person's whole point in buying a loaded and sport packaged vehicle is to gain acceptance, then, for gosh sakes, that person may have a serious inferiority complex.

just my own 2 cents with regards to buying a car.

I am sorry, but this I have a difficult time believing...:Bruce:

in all seriousness, i dont mind the stare up or stare down from the other people who have a bit more souped up ride than i do. hey it is a camry after all

Indeed, that is true -- but I'm talking about CONSTANT red light skirmishes, CONSTANT disrespect by other drivers, CONSTANT sightings of vehicles six times the price of this vehicle...it gets harrowing after awhile...

well, the point of the said packages is really to appeal to the customer more than for the customer to be able to brag about it.

...in YOUR opinion, correct? Because I disagree...

for sure it is one thing to say you have a fully decked out 335i sedan with a full ACS kit or Hamann or whatnot, but you have to realize too that these people who do buy these things, is because they want it for themselves primarily (or so i want to think and believe). i dont think i have ever met any guy here who goes on and says i want to buy a fully loaded SE camry or whatnot to show off to my neighbours and peers. that sounds entirely preposterous.

That's NOT what I'm saying...I didn't get the Camry, sign the papers, get the keys and then drive away thinking "THIS is what I needed to brag to my neighbors about!!! YES!!! I FOUND IT!!!" In all reality, I just wanted a bit more "curb respect" or "appeal" with all the flashy styling cues at hand here; these people fly past me like I'm not even there because their Benz is lowered with 22" chrome hammerheads on it.....

isn't the point of adding these so called extra styling cues is to appeal to the customer who rides and drives that car? turning heads is sort of an extra and value added benefit. but then again, if a person's whole point in buying a loaded and sport packaged vehicle is to gain acceptance, then, for gosh sakes, that person may have a serious inferiority complex.

I don't think it's having a complex at all whatsoever, but I'm not going to touch that one...

just my own 2 cents with regards to buying a car.

Thank you; I respect your opinions and input.

it might be because people arent used to looking at the camry as a sporty type of vehicle. I believe, up until this generation the camry hasn't really been a sporty looking standout at all. But im sure as the face of the camry begins to change, the respect given to the camry will change, and maybe the aftermarket support too??*crosses fingers*

VERY interesting point, White, and thank you for your thoughts; indeed, the previous generation SE was good looking -- and I LOVE the body kit from the Gen 5 SE better than the current one -- but in general the Camry wasn't that aggressive of a car until perhaps now; the problem I have, personally, is that here we are, driving a slick looking sedan with sideskirts, kits, lips, and flashy paint -- and it's really not getting any attention from anyone (well, for others it seems to be, but...)

Styling and curb appeal are relative to the individual. There are cars that simply attract everyone, and, unfortunately, the Camry isn't one of them.

As for the SE trim, it's definetly an improvement over the non-SE versions which is what justifies the price tag (Don't forget about the improved driving dynamics of an SE vs non-SE).

I guess this is one of those things that comes down to the individual. I didn't purchase my Camry thinking it's going to turn heads left and right. I bought it because it was the best choice amongst my limited options.
I suppose there is something to be said about this whole reply; thanks Bullet...:)

for sure SEv6TRD, with all due respect i wasnt targetting you on my reply. its just on my opinion and personal experience that led me to those conclusions and point of view.

but that is personally my take on it. just because i see a person drive an old corolla doesnt mean i'd fly by him showing off my car. but then again, maybe it is just in your territory that you feel that way. lucky for me, i have not encountered as much as people flying by me here. for the some that do, in my mind it is just "have fun paying your 500 dollar speeding ticket".

oh in response to your not believing my part on people driving higher end cars staring at my car, i mentioned stock kit camry SE. but i didnt mention i was about 4" off the ground with 19s :D

I get stopped just about every day, I just did a walk around on my car before I left the dealership people where hanging around asking questions. It drives my wife crazy when people drive up and ask questions about my car.

#36 · (Edited by Moderator)
The only time I encountered that situation was the day I picked the car up...people were buzzing around the car and salespeople were asking questions about the rims, the kit, etc.

Now, the novelty has worn off.

SEV6TRD. Why do you worry about G35 Benz and BMW drivers. First of all of them are to ignorant to know you have a 268HP V6 under the hood which could run easily with the likes of almost all of them excluding the AMG's and put alot of them to shame on the highway and at most red lights given though that the Las Vegas Police Officer is not sitting at the same light adjectent to you.:burnout:

But that's just my 50 Cents
While I would love to believe some of your sentiments at least, I have a hard time believing what you say about the SE being able to put to shame the BMWs and Benzes I would encounter at a would-be stop drag...

First of all. Thoots, nice car man!

Well put. Post of the day.

Agreed. I am human as well. That is the beauty of it all. We can both look at the same piece of art and see two entirely different things. Many see my wife as beautiful. I did not marry her because she is beautiful. I married her because she is who she is. We laugh at each other's jokes, are intellectuals matches (subject to debate, lol), amongst other things. Her being beauty is an absolute plus, but not the basis of our relationship. Again, I like blue, I ordered blue. Okay, it happens to look good. I am not going to buy a color I do not want just prove a point, THAT would be ridiculous. I am sorry you have had a hard time believing that I like blue. :)
I'm not saying you bought blue to "prove a point"....what I'm saying is I have a hard time believing people buy Metallic based paints because "they simply like it" and that "it doesn't matter if people look or not"...

you own a camry...sure its a sporty and attractive camry, but still a camry...
theyre so common that its rarely noticable...
i have a gen 5 and im lowered on black BBS wheels and my camry commands a bitr of attention and stares, but its still just a camry and it still blends in
love your car, dont look for the appreciation of others to make you love it.

I am guessing your encountering M's and AMG's. I was saying that so maybe when you read my reply you would have a smile on your face and feel better about having a SE Camry with the added bonus of a semi powerful V6 Engine. Basically I was just trying to cheer you up alittle. :):):)

#40 ·
No -- I totally appreciate that, Nap, and I understand where you're coming from...and I DO appreciate the fact that I have 268 horses under the hood...it's just that, while I'm not necessarily encountering AMGs or M3s, the power of this six cylinder doesn't really feel like 268 horses most of the time, does it? I mean, I have Dodge pickups smoking me at lights, not even caring that there's a nice, chromed-out, skirted sports sedan next to them that MIGHT be able to smoke THEM if I tried...usually, the SE doesn't get out of its own way fast enough, but...

Just another car on the road.

Agreed...

dude think of it this way...

in your neck of the woods, maybe other people get passed by all the time by people who drive higher end cars. it's not that they are hating on you and your camry alone. maybe they just do have the speed and they pass everyone else just like they pass you. i seriously hope you don't feel like you are being singled out by those people.

and like soulrobber said " my car is meant to look good to me, AND ONLY ME! but if anyone else wants to like it too, then thats cool too."
Agreed...

I get the feeling that you're trying understand why you paid so much money for your Camry to have nobody care about it... Saying people speed past you and dust you at a red light... what do you expect? I don't think they care who you are and what you drive since they have their own lives and have places to be... or maybe you should drive faster if everyone keeps passing you... they'll easily equate camrys with slow old ppl

Face it, other than the dealer option TRD rims, your car's till stock... meaning just another camry on the road... get some modding done and you'll get different reactions

Thanks Cor for your thoughts; indeed, I will take what you suggest to heart...

Perhaps at the end of the day, that's what it's really about...the fact that the friggin' car is just a Camry...I was just expecting more from the "reaction standpoint" of other motorists because this one is so "decked out" and a bit different...

Don't any of you guys who have poured tons of money into mods and stuff get a bit upset when your ride just blends into traffic? Constantly?
me? i dont really give a rats ass what the kid in the civic says...i love my car for exactly what it is, and i love driving it and looking at it, and if someone else doesnt, i respect their opinion and keep doing what i wanna do

What about when it goes beyond the kid in the Civic...what about when it's the SL500 driver with 26" dubs and a $100,000 body kit...and they simply pass you like you don't even exsist because you're sittin' on 18s and a Camry?

See, I don't think anyone else is experiencing the kind of self-indulgence and excess that people exhibit in the town I'm in...every day, you see a Bentley convertible, Maserati, Ferrari, you name it...I mean EVERY DAY...so the competition for "pimped out" customized rides is BRUTAL in this town...

Perhaps that's why the SE isn't doing it for me "curb appeal" wise...

Here in the cold, rainy Northwest, I figure that tint basically isn't needed, and would be a negative with our dark, rainy nights. So, I've never been too keen on getting tinting.

Dufosi is a word I just coined -- call it the Italian word for the plural of "doofus." "Dufosi." Similar to the name for all of the worldwide Ferrari fans, the "Tufosi."
Okay....gotcha...I should have known that being that I'm going out with an Italian, had an Italian ex girlfriend, and love Italian food!!

Your Barcelona would look sick with tint though...

You're not gonna change the stock 17s? And how do you keep that car so shiny and clean with the weather you guys get there? I know because my cousin lives in Seattle.
