Rear Windshield Washer Stopped Working After Airbag Recall

It seems the Toyota technician forgot to reconnect the fluid pipe that supplies the rear windshield washer after working on the airbag recall. I wanted to share this in case others experience the same issue. They mentioned having to remove the interior liner and disconnect the pipe as part of the recall repair. When I noticed the washer wasn’t working, there were no sounds or obvious signs, so it was hard to figure out what went wrong.

Be sure to check all your vehicle's systems after getting an airbag recall fixed, especially if interior components were removed.

I am happy to report that the airbag replacement went very well, the headliner looks perfect. I did test the rear window washer as soon as I took possession and it was fine. I am glad that I knew to do that because I would have been very unhappy if I found out later that it wasn't working.

This is going to sound silly, but are you sure you're using the windshield wiper stalk correctly?

You pull the stalk towards you to spray the front windshield only, and you push the stalk away from you to spray the rear window only. If the tube wasn't reconnected properly after your recall, I would imagine that when you tried to use it correctly, you would still hear the spray pump and your headliner would be flooded from the fluid not reaching your rear window washer nozzle.

Maybe there is a sensor that stops the pump from running if the washer fluid is too low. Have you topped off your windshield washer fluid to confirm you have enough?

So, the first thing I did was top off the fluid and clean the nozzle. The next thing after that was to push the stalk in both directions. I could get washer fluid out of the front but not the back. I also heard the pump running in both directions. I did think about having washer fluid inside the car, but I never smelled it or noticed any wetness inside. I am heading back to the dealership today to have it looked at.

Following recall, our rear washer worked. Rear power tailgate worked. But satellite radio didn't - we drove off w/ disconnected antenna. Took it back, got the fix fixed.

I think those three items are the prospective consequences I've seen so far...
