...what an improvement to overall stopping distance, feel, and no more surges with the A/C on.

What kind of ceramic pads and where did they come from? Cost would be appreciated too if you do not mind.

maybe i should do this mod... surges at stop lights are annoying... 1st couple times i felt it i thought i was getting bumped from behind. ^_^

Like eddie said, more info please.

I've complained about this surging and the brake pressure sponginess for a long time. I'm certainly interested to find out more about the ceramic pads. Also, do you find yourself applying less brake pressure then with OEM pads? I always feel like at a stop I have to hold the brakes hard or I'm going to slam right in front of the guy ahead of me. Also, wonder about the heat generated from the ceramic pads if they will cause premature rotor wear? Additional info would greatly be appreciated.

Mine feels the same way. Also, once stopped it feels like it needs more force to stay stopped than other vehicles ive owned in the past. Not much, but just noticable enough for me.

The first time this happened to me I thought I got rear ended. So I get out of the truck to inspect the damage and talk to the driver behind me. A real cute lady comes out of her car saying, "I didn't hit you!". I was like oh crap. I told her I was sorry and drove off. She must have thought I was a moron.

I hardly complain about the truck but I have to say that the tailgate and the brake pads are pretty lame for a 4x4 truck.

I will wait till I need the pads changed before I replace. I feel the need to get my moneys worth.

i thought i was the only one that had the surge problem....

They claim the dust is less???..However, I can't find anybody who carries them locally. Funny, I just checked their site and the manufacturer is only about 30 miles away. I plan on calling them tomorrow.

I'm curious about the brake dust. Ceramic pads typically make a mess of chrome wheels pretty quickly.

I know it depends on the manufacturer. I just remember that being a real problem on ceramic brakes that I've had in the past. Two days after washing my car, my wheels looked like they'd been powdercoated black.

I call the manufacturer tomorrow and ask about the dust. I guess I can learn to live with the dust if the pads ring true to what others are saying about them.

I've been looking at Hawk brake pads as well. My question is would the ceramic or light truck and SUV (LTS) pads be better for our trucks?

sorry for the late reply....stats class.

Anyway. My truck has 29K on it, and noticed a sqeek from the pads. Took it to Midas, as I was bored... Anyway, the brakes looked fine, over 60% left up front and in the rear. Got compliments for how good they look actually. Figured may as well have them do something since the wheels were off. Turned rotors, and had 'em put on Duralast ceramic pads. They say minimal dust, but I'm by no means an expert.

Here's how they feel. You know that mushy, put your foot to the floor board feel at every stop sign, and light? Or, it's a bazillion degrees outside so your'e running the A/C, but know there will be a surge when you come to a stop, so mush it even deeper? Well, all that is gone. In fact, I can actually control how much braking force there is now, much better control. It's finally progressive.

I noticed also, that sometimes I dork out and drive off w/parking brake on. With stock pads, I could actually drive away and wonder, "hmmm, why am I going slower than usual"... Well, with the ceramic pads, truck won't budge with parking brake on, even above 2K.

The stock pads are ceramic. They are made by a company called Akebono, very good brake pads btw, that's why they were lasting so long. . You just made a downgrade by putting Autozones brand of brake pads on your truck.

The extra stopping power you are feeling is from having the rear drum brakes cleaned and adjusted. Did they clean and adjust your rear brakes?

Your comment about the parking brake would solidify that. The parking brake is in the rear drum brake assembly. If now the truck won't roll away with the parking brake on but it used to before, that means they have been adjusted.

I'm going with the new EBC "yellow stuff" pads when its time to change them.
I would highly recommend staying far away from EBC. When I was working at a shop as a service writer, we tried EBC pads out on a few customers cars who said they wanted more performance, they all wore them out in less than 7K miles and had severely warped rotors.

If you want an upgrade, go with Hawk.

I'm trying to decide whether it's worth upgrading my OEM pads with ceramic hawks now or wait? I only have 2500 miles on my truck but I am extremely unhappy with the brake feel and performance? You mentioned the OEM are good ceramic pads, I don't know if I agree with that or not because I don't have anything to compare them against. I would like to here from others who upgraded to hawk's and if they have noticed a significant difference in performance and feel. I know Pb in his tread was convinced that hawk was the way to go. others?

Does Hawk make a ceramic pad for the 05 Tacoma? I love it... 5 minutes ago, I could give a sh*t about brake pads. Now I'm searching all over for better performance brake pads.

Any info on how to adjust the rear brakes? I'm coming up on 45K miles and getting ready to do an oil change and tire rotation thought i'd check out the brakes while the wheels are off. The brakes were tolerable until I had the lift put on and now it seems the stopping power is for crap.

I just spent over 2 hours trying to find a vendor who carries them. These are the one Pb put on his. Hawk Ceramic Part # HB490Z-665(2005+ Tacoma). I did find them available at tirerack.com However; you have to call them don't show up on the website. Price quoted $64.00 + 7.00 shipping. 1-888-353-5082. I haven't decided to do a change but if you do.. let me know how these work out.

Ya, I laughed when I first read that part... didn't make any sense
