hey, i was wondering if it was possible to attach a turbo (like this one http://www.bullseye-power.com/product_info.php?cPath=50&products_id=132) onto a 5SFE engine. I dont know much about workin on cars, but im tryin to get to to know them so i can work on this one. And if the turbo cant be put on there, what engine should i get? Also, is there a better turbo out there for the price of the turbo listed above?

For the price of that turbo, you may want to consider doing a swap...

The headaches and money associated with boosting a 5s outwieghs that of a swap.

Swap info: www.paautoracing.com <--- good shop, very reputable

I agree with this. You're not just looking at the price of the turbo. You're also looking at the price of all the supporting mods to turn a 5sfe into a turbo. That description says that it bolts on, but I'll bet you bones to ballerinas that they mean onto a 3sgte, not a 5sfe.

To get even a 3sgte up to the 300-450whp range they talk about you're looking at some pretty serious investment.

This is about the turbo motor, not the NA but it will still give you a broad strokes picture of what you're looking at: http://www.mrcontrols.com/primers/power.htm

Try these

MR2Board.com

MR2OC.com

The short of it is you will need to change out the following.

Engine (Duh)
Transmission
Axels
Hubs
Fuel Pump
ECU
Engine harness
Exhaust
Shift cables

You can swap the engine without changing the transmission or fuel pump but there are limitations to both of those NA components.

bah, i think its cheaper to go with a N/A. Considering buying a turbo straight out is double insurance. Also my na was 4000, then 2.5 for the rear clip of the 2nd gen 3SGTE. and generally the rear clips only have like 40k miles on them, while buying a straight out turbo has around 100k+. From looking around when i was looking for a car, turbos were atleast double the price of the NA i bought. Yes the turbos have mods, but not the mods i wanted for the most part. And all the turbos had wheels, but not the ones i wanted. So either 6.5k for a turbo mr2 with around 40k on engine, or 8-10k for a turbo with over 100k on the engine and some mods that id end up replacing anyway. And id save over 1k on insurance every 6 months. So from my research, and turbo swap is cheaper! :D

it could very well be considered insurance fraud by not disclosing this information...check with the laws in your area....

thats very true. one of the questions they ask when getting an MR2 insured is" turbo or N/A? if they should find out different, they would not have to honor your policy. it IS fraud. but like you said-only if they find out. but a wreck could do just that.

You are being frightfully short-sighted.

What if you crash and destroy someone's brand-new $40,000 SUV and injury their children.
Now you are being sued for a couple hundred thousand dollars and you insurance company looks at the car ... hey wait, this is not what we insured you for. You committed fraud and we are not responsible for your claim.

If you think you are just risking your "turbo" you are really missing the point.

By law, they do. Otherwise you are committing insurance fraud.
