what to do with the gap in the rear of center console that has no rear air vents?

Is there something I can put there to hide the gap?

Thanks!:)

Sorry guys.... I forgot to list my vehicle, which happens to be a plain-vanilly '07 Camry LE. :argh:

The empty space in the back of the center console looks like this.(without vents)

Apparently you aren't giving enough information to answer the question. That would explain why nobody is giving you an answer.

I feel the same way. If you don't care, neither do I.

It would be a good idea to put information about your car in your sig.

:)

wow, TRD VVTi that's a bit harsh repsonse. I'm guessing his (or her) car is either an '07 LE or an SE since only the Gen5 and Gen6 were available with the rear seat vents, and only the Gen6 has an empty slot in the rear for models w/o the rear air vents.

Anyways germandebbie, I'm not so creative and I dont have an LE or SE so I can't identify with your situation. But I suppose if you're so inclined, you can probably make use of that slot to put in some AC power outlets - make use of the existing AC plug and get a splitter that converts one plug into 2 or more (you can get those at auto parts stores) - drill some holes and mount it in there. Then if you have rear passengers, they can plug in their stuff to those.

just my suggestions - I'm prolly making it more complicated than you intended huh?

yeah i have no clue what he is talking about. Must not apply to the Gen5 or I am not understanding it.

Without pictures, I have no idea what you are talking about.

I am guessing that you are talking about Gen 5 and 6 right? Well, since my car is a 2002, that will be in the Gen 5.

So I went to my car to take a look. I am guessing you are talking about the center consele that is in between the two front seats.

The only thing I see is what appear to be a cover with vents on the sides on the bottom if you view it from the back seats.

I really can't see any reason to put anything there.

I don't think that it's that harsh for crying out loud.

If he/she posted it was an 05-06 I would have looked at my car. Being he/she didn't post more info, I didn't go look at mine. Apparently others have felt the same way or there wouldn't be 136 views with so little help.

Well I guess this all begs a question about the center console on the 07 xle versus the le/se console. The xle has a rear a/c duct, so if one could compare the two consoles, does the xle have additional ducting built in along with the rear air register? Somehow it seems silly to design two unique systems, but then again it IS Toyota. If one was to open the rear of the console on an le/se, would you get air flow?

I was wondering the same thing.

How much work would it be to "tap" into the air ducting? Could be worth it.

You know some of you need to calm down, for real. What the guy is talking about is in the back of the center storage compartment (you know where you put your cds) there is a square hole on LE and CE models instead of the vents on XLE models.

Actually, you're the one that needs to calm down.

I posted that information to HELP. Apparently it did as now it's crystal clear what year and model Camry is being discussed.

Until that was posted, I, like others didn't know. Now look how easy it is to SEE what was being asked.

Is the piece of the console where that cavity is located removable?

ok ok, you get all the credit and a gold star for helping...

but yah, if that center piece is removable, you can make a good weekend project out of it.

I see no seam where the box could be easily removed. Perhaps one of the guys here with ready access to the full parts list could take a look at the exploded diagram and list and figure out if there is additional ducting under the dash to flow through on the xle. It appearsa to me that the console assembly is a different part from that used on the xle. I really don't understand why Toyota decided to put that little box in there. It isn't deep enough to hold anything, isn't flat enough or round enough to hold a cup. It's just pretty useless. Should have left it just flat/flush on the back if they weren't going to duct air back there.

I have no rear air vents on my SE as well, and I'm damn glad because it serves to remind those unlucky to sit in the back seat right when I open the doors on a 100+ degree day that I sacrificed their comfort so that I can drive a black SE instead of a CE, LE or even a geriatric XLE. They can look at the empty slot near their knees dreaming of cold air coming through there, while me and my fellow front seat passenger get all the benefits of air conditioning. Now I'm not an inhuman monster...they'll get their cold air too but they'll have to wait for it.

But seriously I put my Air Spencer there. My ride smells like Squash all the time (until I need to refill). I can see someone who might for example want to put some headrest monitors (hey to each his or her own) to fill that gap in with power plugs and/or RCA outputs for video game stuff...or even a single DIN DVD player. That would be pretty neat...

Those passengers in the back whom dreaming of cold air coming through there.....could be your kids but base on the way you written I highly doubt you have yet to have kids.
My next car will definately be XLE V6.

^i feel like there is enough air flow that can go back there.

usually if you aim the outer vents toward the windows youll get the flow to the back. i also run the foot vents to allow air to the back.

Thank you for the tip of using the foot vents. I'll try that to see how my kids like it.

No I don't have kids...only freeloading friends. I do however have disposable income and more free time to enjoy life, unlike you it seems from the way you "written".

What you didn't want to give your kids the extra legroom and the rear seat entertainment system? Get a Sienna if you have kids. Lighten up douch.

Fixed it for you....when one calls names via the internet it's the least we can do to spell correctly...:D
Thanks Spellmaster.

You might also want to proofread the poor guy out in San Diego with the kids not getting the cool air they desperatly need because their daddy didn't pony up for a XLE V6.

geriatric XLE
What are you, a teenager? I'm sorry I didn't get the SE, so I could have 'giant robot' sized manual AC knobs, a big hole in the rear of my center console, silver trim up the a$$, a fixed non-sliding armrest, etc.. Darm I really wished I could have had all that especially so I could get a SLIGHTLY more taut suspension!

Look, I may be in my mid 30's, but I'm certainly not geriatric. I have a 6 and a 4 year old who would probably melt in the southern summer out here without vents in the rear. Some of us have already done the sport thing, and have since moved on. Before this I drove a 2006 V8 Touareg, 2004 G35, 1998 Z28 SS, and a 1996 Torch Red Corvette. I'm now ready to drive something that is smooth, and sufficiently lux, while being fiscally responsible, since I have a family to worry about.

I didn't mean to affend anyone with SE's, I really do think they are nice looking, I just got a bit riled with so many posts stating you'd have to be an old coot to want an XLE. I apoligize if some of us on the board are actually grownups.

My Goodness there a lot of b!tching on this board...look for those who don't have a sense of humor kiss my @$$. You folks with the rear air vents can laugh at all of us who don't. Pity us. Our rear seat passengers are suffering because they have to wait 2 minutes for the rest of the car to cool down.

I'm throwing down the gauntlet...SE's just plain look better. It's not real "sport" in any sense of the word. It looks better. So if you b!tches like to have automatic climate controls when a simple knob just won't do, and if you like the ugly ass wood trim on your overpriced XLE's, buy wheels that would look right at home in Tijuana, and if you want to put "port holes" on your fenders then good for you. But in my eyes all that isn't worth the $27500 I paid for my V6 SE with the 18" wheels, so feel free to disagree (or b!tch) all you want.
