I previously asked if anyone knew if 6x9's would fit and i never got any responses so its safe to assume that this car is just still too new for most to have experimented with, so with that in mind im starting my own thread detailing my audio system overhaul and I'll also post DIY's as I progress along with what ever im doing.

Keep in mind I still need to go speaker shopping and I'm still trying to find harnesses before i fully modify install the speakers because I'd like to keep it all easily removable. I talked to tacotunes and they said that they will be updating there website with new 2018 parts in the coming weeks/month so hopefully they come out with front speaker wire adapters and a stereo harness adapter for an aftermarket amplifer.

This is whats needed to add 6x9's to the front doors of your 2018 camry.

TIP: I first ordered the Metra 82-8146 but this one was to big to modify to fit the screw holes so i returned it and bought the one below from amazon. I'm not sure why because the reviews say it that people have used it on 2006 models and others say it needed to be modified to work. From what i remember i didnt want to modify it to much and i wanted to keep it more simple so i tried this one instead and it worked out as a better fit. Maybe different chinese manufactures lol.

From my measurements it looks like a 3.20in or less speaker will fit without hitting the window, or you can add a 1/2 spacer and push it upto 3.70in which would give more high end speaker options. I'll update when i get to actual testing some speakers that i buy.

Thanks! I'm searched for forums like crazy for stereo information and i so wished i had a thread like this so i decided i'll go ahead and do one for anyone else in the same scenario. I could have easily gone with 6.5's speakers but I love the extra bass that comes out of 6x9s that has always kept me interested in those. This is also a better setup if you dont plant to add any subwoofers since you get some extra bass over the 6.5's (in the same speaker price range)

Did you do a DIY with yoursetup or did you follow someone elses? I found another thread where someone did the same thing.

https://www.toyotanation.com/forum/...-camry-8th-generation-2018/1568634-installed-sub-woofer-base-entune-system.html

I have some car audio stuff just sitting around that i pulled from my last car that i sold and so far i have a xd400/4 and xd600/1 JL audio amps as well as a 10W6V3 subwoofer collecting dust. I plan to amplify the speakers with the amp once a harness comes out, but i also add my 10W6 to the car and test out the idea of throwing it in where the jbl sub normally fits (ive read it fits 10" subs but i havnt test fitted it). If doesnt fit im doing a box, but if it does fit then check out how bad the rattle is and decide from there.

Forgot to post these for anyone who's interested in seeing what the oem speakers look like and to me they look very cheap with a tiny magnet.

Does anyone recognize the speaker wire? im wondering if this might have been used on a previous toyota car where a harness already exists, but not labeled for camry's yet?

We'll i bought a set of 6x9's these were Morel Tempo Components and they definitly sound really good even without being amplifed and they fit well with the 1/2" spacer; However, I have to return them because the added 1/2" spacer pushes the speaker too far foward and the speaker was hitting the inner plastic circle when i listend to music (The plastic circle is tad smaller than 6x9 so it hits the ring door). Since the speaker was hitting i decided it's not worth keeping and risk damaging the speaker to work correctly. If anyone really wants to install a big 3.5" deep speaker you could modify the door by cutting the outer plastic front coverr and use the speaker cover that comes with your speakers, but that would look odd. Maybe someone could do a custom mold if they really want to run a 6x9 thats 3 1/2" thick and have it look good.

For me, im back to the drawing board and looking for some thinner 6x9's that have a smaller magnet. From what i can tell anything less than 2.9" (maybe 3") would still fit the slot without that half inch added spacer i used and this would give the speaker an extra 1/2" where it shouldnt hit the door panels.

I still plan to update the thread as i continue; however, i might be a little slower since im starting nursing school this week and the car will have to wait. By then at least the front door/stereo entune harnesses will come out or maybe tacotunes plug and play amp kit sometime soon. I'd rather get that if they release it soon because running after market speakers without an amp usually means a big loss in bass running them underpowered from the stero unit, but you would get an improvment in highs without an amp.

Reading Alot of Posts on different sites does the speaker sizing for the 6x9 apply to the rear speakers as well with the 3.2 inch mounting depth?

Rear speakers are Toyota 3 point 6.5" mounted...

Front doors can take a 6x9, 6x8 oval, or 6-7" speaker... if you make the adapter. The issue is matching the oval speaker with the door card, as already mentioned above.

JBL has made several GTO 6x9's over the years.... need to be more specific or simply contact JBL for their surface mount speaker depth.
