I purchased a Pioneer 12" shallow mount sub to install but I could not get it to fit right. I have a double cab and want to keep everything as factory as possible. I ended up building a small box
for the compartment behind the rear passenger seat and installing 2 Kicker 6" mid bass speakers. They have a response of 30 to 500 hz, more surface area then an 8" and are shallow enough to fit. The sytem I stalled sounds increadible using the stock head unit. They provide plenty of lows for what I listen to, which is anything but hip-hop or rap.

Install looks good. Wanna build me one! Dont know if im willing to give up all my storage just yet. Im gonna start with replacing the f/r door speakers. Did you already change them? If so what did you put in their place and how well did they fit? Ive seen some replaced but wood templates had to be used too space the speaker out from where the window rolls down. Im looking for something I can just drop in and hook up without a lot of fab work.

Sure, I'd build you one w/o subs. Was not that hard to make and I've got the size down perfect to fit in that area. Ya, the storage area....well I still have under the rear seat. Could alway put the amps under the front seats.
I changed out the f/r speakers w/MB Quarts.
Front has MB Quarts Discus RCE 268
Rear has MB Quarts Discus DKE 116

Had to make templates for them to be spaced out, not to bad though. Then Dynamated them to make sure they were dead. "Just drop in"? Not sure , the stock speakers were pretty funky the way they were mounted in the plastic.

Wow that looks pretty good man. Do you think you would have been able to fit 3 of them in there if you built the box a little taller and put them in a triangle formation?

Slightly off topic but I am having Marv build me a wedge box to fit behind the back seat of the access cab. It will hold a 12" Image Dynamics IDMAX. Around 1.5 cubic ft. It will still allow you to slide the seat all the way back to where it hits the little seat when flipped over. And still be able to recline far back. I'll get pics up in a few weeks.

I wanted to keep the same profile as the storage compartment so to make it taller wouldn't have worked. The inside dimension at the top was about 1/2". I might have been able to keep it flat in the front instead of coming straight up and then braking back, that might have been enough to fit a third in. I figured that 2 with the available air space in the enclose was about the minimum I would want to go.
