So, to start off I picked up an 08 sequoia, not running. As with most deals I got a story with it. It overheated, but much worse than I thought, bad head gaskets, when I was working on tearing it down, I had a fire.

The fire took out the dash, ecu, the modules behind gloveboxes, part of the wiring harness behind dash, and the dash it self. The fire was contained to one general area and I was able to get it out, though not as quick as I hoped.

The route I've decided to continue on is repairing the fire damage to ensure the the rest of the electrical system wasnt fried also. I am having a tough time finding many sequoias being parted, if I find a lesser trim package could the harness be different or do they use one harness for all of them? Are there any tundras that would use the same harness? I am catching hell trying to find info on this stuff.

Also, if anyone has any of that stuff lying around taking up space, send me a message.

Try car-part.com and search "fender" for a Sequoia of the same Gen as yours. You'll at least see some images of Sequoias in salvage yards near you. If you get super specific on a part it will usually come up blank.
This is helpful too.
awesome man, thanks. this is my first toyota I have that I plan on keeping. I'm not too familiar with everything, I have no problem taking things apart and putting them together, I just dont know the ins and out of them. I'm used to German engineering/diesels. I'll check that site out and give that search a try, that's pretty good idea.

I would've snagged that one too for 5 bills!
You may need one of these services.
I actually have one I can use now that you mention it. I really hope I can recover from the fire. once I fix all the interior bbq, if nothing is wanting to work right I'm gonna part it, as much as I dont wanna.

Get on car-part.com and look for a Platinum thats in one piece in a salvage yard close enough to drive to.
Also a lot of the parts you need are small and light enough a lot of the yard will ship them at a reasonable cost especially on stuff that they know from eperience has a small market for. Computer time is cheap. :)
Looks like that harness was on some others like the SR5.

i found two platinums online, waiting for some responses for the harness now. fingers crossed i can get one fairly cheap. im just worried everything else got fried too, battery was hooked up so i could use the door locks.

everything stopped working electrical after the harness melted, not sure if blown fuses or the melted wires fried stuff, or even if one of those modules controls all electrical and its just not being distributed now. like i said first time dealing with really any yota, not sure how they work just yet.

im still working on tearing all the damaged stuff out of the truck and cleaning all that yellow powder out before it ruins the raintray/firewall

slowly but surely I'm recovering from this incident. I'll be much more careful in the future. I picked up some harnesses from a junkyard. parts Toyota said they were compatible, which I guess they are. but several features wouldn't work. so I'm having to comb the harnesses with a friend and a diagram, add plugs and pin wires into it. the majority is done. we are gonna go over them once more here soon. and I can start reinstalling the interior and get back to the engine issues.

at this point it's mostly about proving everyone telling me it's not worth fixing wrong. fully invested I'm roughly at 2k. few more minor interior parts. and thenback onto fixing the engine. if I can keep it at 5k or lower. I'm less than half the kbb value. all the removed parts and cleaning I've done you can barely smell anything inside. which blew my mind.

cleaning up the block this evening. I figured out what the gunk was in the cooling jacket, the spacer located in there has melted. and I'm worried it may have gotten into places I won't be able to get it out of.

so I'm looking for a used engine. I believe the only thing I need to look for is the 5th digit being a Y. anything else I should look for? anyone have any leads on a used one for less than the scalpers on ebay?

alright, new thing, scored a used engine for 600$. its from a 14. i am really not sure, i cant find a straight answer, everything seems to be the same, do i need to change ecu to newer to match, or should i be able to run the ecu i picked up after the fire? since it will need programming anyways, possibly swapping chips from old ecu to this one, still up in the air with that.

i got a few things i wanna look over and change out before i drop this new engine in the truck.

if anyone has ANY info on this type of subject please let me know, im in over my head and i wanna get out of this with a running sequoia for under 5k

its almost done, waiting on parts to start putting dash back in, cant put the harnesses in until i get the hvac junk in. i got faith in this project, there is the faintest hint of smoke inside, i bet if i lent it to a pothead and had them hot box, you wouldnt smell it all anymore but id probably get harrassed by the boys alot haha
