1995 Camry - high revs before shift

Hey guys,

I found a local '95 Camry LE with 200k that I want to possibly buy as an extra car to keep miles down on my brand new car (and selling my other old car that is not fuel efficient). It is a very nice car, but the seller says that the transmission will not shift until it hits 5500 rpm (which I know is not good for the engine). Does it sound like it needs some sort of linkage adjustment, or is the tranny shot?

Thanks!

Could be the transmission kick down cable needs adjusting. If the ferrule is way too far out, it'll delay shifts. Look for this cable attached to the throttle body butterfly...
