Hi All,
Here are the details/history... Vehicle is an 97 Camry (a541e) check engine light came on with code P0753 (Shift Solenoid A Electrical) I just changed the shift solenoid yesterday now can't reverse only forward with code P0753 & P0758.
This is my dad car he passed away six years ago I try to hold on to the car as long as I can just to remember of him.

What could possible wrong ? any help is greatly appreciated,

Hopefully it's something simple and you get everything back in working order soon. The last model years of A541e are very bulletproof transmissions. Good luck!
Last night have some day light left I open up and discovered the solenoid red wire is broken I believed when I install the valve body the wire got stuck between the valve body and the transmission body.
Tomorrow I will remove the valve body and inspect the wire solenoid if still long enough I will solder splice the red wire.

Are the codes the same?
Sure acts like the NSS is sketchy.
I have not recheck the code yet, my apologies for not clear on my part I did started the car those are based on the engine is on when I move the shift and lift off my feet on the break pedal.

Could take it to a trans shop. Just don’t get in a position where you need reverse.
Armed w all your information I would think a shop would make quick work of it.
The problem is every shops I called they told me the transmission have to be rebuild and would cost around $1800 the car not even worth half of the cost I just hated to let it go.

If everything was pretty much working before the solenoid swap (it may be in limp mode back then, giving you something like 1st in L/2 and 3rd in D), then it hopefully should be something simple.

Depending on which solenoid(s) failed, you'll get a combination of a low gear and a high gear as you shift from L to D.

If needed, find a local well-reviewed ATRA shop:
Thank you John, recheck my work is my weekend project I will go slow and take notes is PITB but my dad is the reason that motivate me to give it another shot.

I would recheck all your work. Make sure the oil tubes and the correct lengths of valve body mounting bolts were at the correct places. Make sure everything is properly seated and that there's no ATF pressure leaks. IIRC the mounting bolts need to be tightened to 8 lb/ft, which is too low for 3/8"-drive torque wrenches. use 1/4"-drive and 8x12 = 96 INCH-pounds. It sounds like to me the fluid wasn't directed to the correct places.

Moving in 2nd and not D and L are definitely not normal, even for limp mode as in solenoid failures, which should give you 1st and 3rd at all times.

One of the problems I suspect, besides solenoid wiring, would be the weight of the valve body prevented it from fully seating against the transmission, resulting in pressure leaks.

If the only thing you touched were in the pan (and not like the neutral safety switch and such on the outside), then recheck your work inside the pan. Go slow, don't rush. The A541e and its lower torque A140e cousin are pretty bulletproof compared to the newer U-series transmissions.

You should still be able to to shift into neutral and push the car out of the garage if the manual linkage is correctly installed.

There still are both solenoid codes. Here's a solenoid installation instruction that might help. Rostra is an aftermarket solenoid brand:

There should also be lots of A541e related videos on youtube.
Thank you for the information, I make a mistake on my part 2 is not moving L is moving.
I will recheck my work again I knew the car is aged but I hate to let it go because it's my dad car worst case scenario I might looking to swap out if the cost is justify.

I don't know, I was under the impression they were grounded thru their mounting brackets.
You should be able to put it in neutral using the emergency shifter lock release and push it out unless it's uphill then ya need a 6 pak and a couple friends.
Checked on the car last night and here what happens.
Fluid level = Normal
Reverse = Moved forward a little bit then stop.
Drive = Not moving.
2 = Moving forward
L = Not moving

This happens without stepping on gas pedal.

Considering what those codes are and where you were, maybe the connections to those solenoids were disturbed.
ECM isn't getting the info it needs.
I am thinking about open up again to recheck to make sure all connectors is secured the only problem is if put in the garage if I can't fix it I can't back out.
One quick question the original solenoids does not have the ground wire (Blk) the ones installed have the ground wire and connected to the valve body are they interchangeable ?
This is one original look likes.
This is the new ones.
