Hey, I recently bought a 1999 Camry 2.2L 4-cylinder automatic. I started it up on Saturday and it started just like it should. It went about 6 feet before it completely shut off and wouldn’t start. It’s cranking like it’s trying to start but it just won’t start. I’ve checked the fuses and relays, replaced the engine main relay, nothing. Checked the timing belt belt, it’s fine. I replaced the ignitio wires and that didn’t work. I learned yesterday that there is no spark going to the spark plugs, so that’s probably the problem, however I don’t know what to replace since I’m relatively new to cars. Anyone think they can help me with this?

Could be the coil, but also could be the primary voltage to the coil. Do you have any test equipment, like a volt meter or a test light? It's not a good idea to just replace parts without knowing what to replace.

How about a repair manual, do you have one for this car?

When you checked the timing belt, did you verify it is spinning with the lower crank and upper cam when cranking?

I know for a distributor system, a broken timing belt will equal no spark. Not sure how it is on a distributors system with a broken timing belt if there is spark.

I also believe there's a crank sensor on these 5S as well that can affect no spark situation?

and if you search this forum or google for sudden stops and/or no starts without explanation, you'll find that 20 year old electronic items such as ecm's don't work as they should and need to be replaced once you've reached the bottom of the troubleshooting matrix.
