The door should be a direct swap. If you're planing to reuse the '97 door mirror on the '01 door, make sure the door's first number/letter VIN match your car. If your VIN starts with a 4, you have a US-built Camry and need a US-built door. If it starts with a J, you have a Japan-built car and need a Japan-built door. The reason is that the holes drilled for the mirror on the door is different between the two. If the mirror comes with the door, no need to worry. The other exterior different between the two years is the body side molding. The '00-01 is wider but it's only an appearance different.
