Hi guys I purchased a one-owner 2002 Avalon last year and it has had an issue with the brakes scraping when I come to California stop or even sometimes at an abrupt hard stop it scrapes. Mechanic says it’s the brake pads and rotors, checking to see if it can be anything else, any suggestions? Thank you.

* I have been safely driving this car and have found a buyer before pursuing repairs. Thank you for the help on the forum and I may have questions about maintaining my late father’s Lexus here soon.

Ok here is an update- I took it to a mechanic and they did a visual inspection. They told me it needed the rotors resurfaced and new shocks and can use new brakepads but can also maybe be there steering column. Upon visual inspection they said the axels look good, they didn’t mention anything about the control arm bushings or ball joints though.

I was looking at a new car anyway but does anyone know how I can get to the bottom of this, if not I will just discount it in selling it to the next buyer because my house only 1 parking spot, but I’d like to try and fix it so it is easier to sell as well- I just don’t know how time effective it is if Im not ultimately planning to keep the car anyway though.

Thank you for your help!
