No prob! If the alt quits on you, there is a 130 amp alternative for 4-cyl Highlanders that came on towing package models.

Just wanted to add if you are de-pinning your 3 PIN connector to go to the new 4 PIN the wire colors are the same so makes it very easy

Yes sir! With the right tools.... I purchased a de-pinning tool kit from Amazon for $20 a few years ago and got really good at it now!

If you arent comfortable doing this by all means go with the adapter 👍

 

Those pics will be good for reference if you forget which wire goes where 🤦

De-pinning:

First remove the white retainer from the connector. It should come out with a gentle pry. Then use a precision instrument to bend up the plastic tab that holds the connectors in

 

Dont forget to switch out your rubber housing also.

 

All done. And i have power and no sparks 👌

 

Well done, man! First confirmed case on an 01-03 right here! I have two of the plug and rubber boots lying around from the yard, waiting to be installed should I need a new alt!

 

Smart getting 2, i only had one chance and was getting a little nervous! My original 3 pin connector disintegrated when I removed the pins but the Sienna one seemed a lot newer and/or better quality

My alternator was fine but it is original and im at 203k, it was time for a new one. Also it looks like they seem to fail around 250k fyi

 

i would def do this mod if i didn't sell my 02 highlander last november, didn't want to but had to, just got a 04 sequoia and that would be 4 cars so i had to sell one.

 

I am upgrading my alternator and this, DENSO 2100539, is no longer available it seems. I got a reman. Denso 130 amp on ebay instead with a one year warranty.

 

Looks like it was replaced with this instead. Sienna one is 50 bux cheaper

 

The one that i got was $104 total.

Retails for $252. So far everything is working great

When I next replace my battery I will do a AGM too

 

Has anyone had issues with their 150a alternator? Mine just failed! Very frustrating.

 

Would you say Denso is the best brand to meet OEM quality? What about Bosch?

I've only used Denso alts with good luck, but had a Remy fail on me in less than 3 yrs

I think @AlexMan may have had / has a Bosch alt so he may have something to say about that
