Good Day,
My car is a 2004 Corolla, and it needs a new battery. It has 110,000 miles on the odometer.
The manual calls for a group 35 battery, which is either $100 or $130 for the version with a few more cold cranking amps.
Could I use a group 26R battery or a group 24F battery? They both sell for $55.
Size wise, compared to the group 35 battery, the group 26R battery is:
7/8 inches narrower, length wise
1 1/8 inches shorter
And the group 24F battery is:
1/2 inch longer
1/8 inch taller.
With cold cranking amps, they have:
Group 35 - 650 CCA
Group 26R – 540 CCA
Group 24F – 585 CCA
I did a search and found a discussion about doing the same battery swap, with using a group 26R or 24F battery instead of a group 35 battery on Bob Is The Oil Guy, but the only conclusion the chaps came to was – it should probably work.
I would really like to know for sure, before I buy a new battery.
I am in Bloomington, Indiana. So far, the coldest nights have been around 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
Thank you much for your help. I sure appreciate it, Anthony 😀
