We have a 2006 RAV4 Limited 4WD w/ 3.5L, 5sp ECT. Our problem is that there is a vibration and a humming noise, similar to driving on rough pavement, that occurs at regular intervals when driving, approx every .2nm regardless of the speed 40, 50, 60 70 mph the vibration and noise are constantat. Initially we loved our RAV4 however, now we don't want to drive it because of the moise/vibration. The dealership service tech said it was normal, probobly the AWD system engaging/disengaging when we took him for a test drive. I can't buy that. The service department tells us no one has reported anything like this so they don't see it as a problem.
Anyone else experience this. Not happy having a $29K boat anchor.

I also have the 2006 RAV4, Limited, AWD. I only have 900 miles on it, and have not experienced any of the simmptons that you mentioned.

How many miles do you have on it? It sounds like it is there all the time. Is there another Toyota dealer near you where you can take it to to get another opinion? Have you talked to the dealer owner / sales department instead of just the repair department?

Good luck,

Bob H.

MudDucke i'm with you...
I have the same problem it's usually noticable imbetween 50 & 60mph. At first I thought a wheel bearing problem but it's not. The vibration/humm starts when I'm barley giving it any gas while i'm crusing when I let go of the gas pedal the vibration/humm is gone. I'm wondering if its a torque convertor problem.... RAV4 V6

Noticing it a bit now ...

After reading this post I started trying to "feel" or hear this vibration... and I have managed to reproduce a SLIGHT "humming" at around the 50-60 Mph (80Km/h) range. Seems to occur on straighaways with a very slight pressure to the gas pedal when moving from 50 to 60 mph. the "hum" lasts about 3 miles worth of acceleration and then fades away. I have not noticed it at any other interval along the speedometer.

It is there, and can be felt if you realllllly listen for it (radio off, fan off, etc.)

It don't bother me none though, and I'm confident that it is normal operating noise.

Still a great ride and an awsome car to my mind.

Mine does it too, I figure it's some kind of harmonic vibration, my Chevy Trailblazer did it too, but it quit doing it after several thousand miles, hopefully the Rav4 will do the same. It's most prevalent at 50-60mph with light throttle application, as was stated. It's real noticeable when the cruise control is set.

Dear MudDucke,

I have a 3 week old 2007 RAV 4 V6 4x4 with the same vibration/hum at 50-60 MPH, ~1500 RPM (5th gear). It goes away if I shift into neutral and coast at that speed or shift into a lower gear to force a higher RPM on the engine. The Toyota techs declared it an exhuast hum and inspected for body contact, but found none. I suspect faulty drive train/transmission with vibration transmitted at a natural frequency of the body. It has been almost a year since your posting. Did you resolve the problem?

Trailblazer Vibration

I found your thread with a google search (searched "vibration at 1500 RPM trailblazer)... needless to say I have a very similar problem. 3rd or 4th gear (it's a 4 speed) I have a vibration anywhere from 1400-1900 RPM. It seems to be loudest when the engine is "lugging" i.e. giving it just enough gas to accelerate without giving it enough to downshift. Most notable going up a slight grade.

I have been putting off bringing it to a shop, because I don't want to spend a lot of money having them try to reproduce and diagnose to no avail.

You mentioned it is normal in your last thread, did they (dealer/shop) give you an explanation of what it is? I appreciate any feedback they may have given you...

Thanks,
Dave

1999 Camry V6 harmonic hum

Finally I find a thread that sorta resembles my problem.

Problem Started about 2/3 years ago. Roughly After the car hit a dog at a low speed of 10 miles an hour.

Between the speeds of 40- 80 mph a constant harmonic hum sounds from the front left wheel area... the reason I say this is because when I was a passenger in the same vehicle the sound was not so pronounced. This is like a period/rhythmic/harmonic hum at a constant frequency coming almost every 2 seconds.

I had the dealers check this out. They cannot get to the root cause of the issue. The have sorta ruled out the wheels/tires by a stethoscope. They think it may be the bearings or the tranny. I can afford to experiment. I dont have warranty on my 99 camry v6 anymore.

Anyway just living with this sound for now... the blast the music to drown the sound.

Hope someone finds the cause of this problem. :disappoin

noise from the rear at speed

I had the same problem on my 2001 Rav. Starting at highway speed it would emit a loud vibration type noise from the rear. I bought all new tires and the sound was still there. So I thought either a wheel bearing or axle shaft (AWD). One day when I was swerving I heard the noise go away. More swerving/testing noted that when swerving right, less weight on right rear the sound went away. I decided to buy the wheel hub assy, can't just change the bearing, have to change the whole hub assy. I got it online for $170 roughly. It wasn't real hard to change out, although I did end up having to remove the brake backplate and drive the hub assy out as it was held in with rust. Turns out the old hub was totally worn out and had a lot of play in it. The new one was nice and tight. Put it all back together and the noise was gone. Also the longer I waited to change this hub the noise started at lower speeds until it was doing it at like 35 mph. I wouldn't suggest waiting that long.

I feel bad for others out there with the same problem however, I feel slightly better knowing there is a problem. Finished reading Y'alls posts and I appreciate the feed back. In my initial post I mentioned .2nm, just fat fingered the keyboard.
I have tried; remove roof rack cross pieces, Removed roof rack, drove with spare assembly removed, weatherstripping in the rear door spoiler gap at the roofline...No Joy
The dealer won't even address the problem nor will the service manager go for a "Show you what I'm talking about ride"
I'm looking into a Tech bulletin recently released, TSB Number: TC006-07.
It seems no one want to provide this information without joining, subscribing or otherwise giving up the first born male child.
If TOYOTA knows there is a problem why is it so hard to get the information. My dealer in Oklahoma doesn't even know there is a Service Bulletin out, I get the deer in the headlights look. They are willing to take my money but it seems to stop there.
Happy hunting. If it works I'll post the whole dang thing

drone .vibration

hi update on 4+4 computer dealer replaced computer noise is gone i asked service manager if he feels this malfunction could result in future clutch failure they dint feel there was any damage done I'm no tech but if the computer was telling the clutches to engage all this time would that not be the same as driving at highway speed and applying the brakes continually .i believe the 4+4 is controlled by clutches in the rear diff anyone have an opinion on this .i call Toyota Canada they told me to get a written report to prove that i told the dealer about my concerns in case there is a problem later

I have a 2007 Rav 4 with a V6 and from the first day I have the low droning humming occuring at regular intervals ( maybe every 45 sec and lasting 15 sec) when driving at 60 mph, either with or without cruise control. Guess what, the dealer cant hear it. And now I'm out of warranty. I have also had acceleration issues at low rpm and clogged weep holes for the air conditioner/moonroof directing water into the vehicle when it rains or I'm using the air conditioner. Other than these 3 issues I love the car butI'm beginning to wonder.!!!!

We have a Rav 4x4 2007 4 cyl and no noise at all so we also bought a 2010 same base model. It has a very irratateing vibration at 60-70 mph exactly where we drive the most. Had the wheels balanced at an independent tire dealer and was sure that was the problem and is still there. I can put the auto trans in neutral and the vibration is still there. Dealer drove two new ones like it and one is even worse. They now tell me it is just normal. The 2007 doesn't do it. Contacted toyota and they act like they have never heard of the problem and aggree with the dealer. I drove the same model new at another dealer and it does it too. I drove the V-6 and it doesn't have the vibration. Don't know what to do now. Was going to trade the wheels from the 2007 to the 2010 but if i put it in neutral and still does it then it isn't the tires and wheels or the engine. Has to be something in the drivetrain. Would like to trade it with 3,000 miles for a V-6 but the dealer wants $5600 so guess we are stuck with it unless toyota admits something and fixes it. My fault for not takeing it out on the freeway. Is our 4th new toyota and not once did we take the others back for a problem. Very disapointed.

Highlander irritating hum vibration most noticeable at 35-45 mph

I imagine after all this time you've had the car fixed.
I have 2006 Gas Highlander LTD with 63,500 miles has the U151-f trans axle. No issues until a few weeks ago.

I get a very irritating hum vibration and gear whine most noticeable at 35-45 mph. Terrible gas mileage and not shifting into high gear. No ECU codes to display.

I replaced all brake rotors and pads. Front end guy say wheel bearings OK.
Transmission guy wants a second look at it. Thank god he didn't charge me a dime the first time.
The local arrogant dealer would have given me a jar a Vaseline for my wallet. That's as descriptive as I will get. Either they will tell me nothing is wrong or everything is wrong.

I suspect it's the trans axle. Don't know if the U151-f has vacuum and electrical inputs. Maybe a bad connection. I'm hoping.
Having him check it out this coming week. He will take the time to ride with me - to nail it down.

Any thoughts. Thanks.

Shake Rattle @ roll

I purchased a new 06 rav. It was great for 18000 miles, then the windows started vibratting. Put on new tires no help, took to dealer. Same crap its normal for this type of vehicle. After I told him and Toyota its a pile of garbage its not going home with me. They gave a generous trade in I drove off in a new camary l e and never will I think about a stinky rav 4 again. They can't fix them they don;t try.

Rav 4 Vibration

Think you will find it is the driveshaft, the one that goes from front to back, get under and grab the driveshaft , near the center bearing, with the rubber, that holds it in, and wiggle the shaft, you will feel play in it, allowing the shaft to go out of balance, especially under acceleration, and then centers itself, when you let off the gas.
Probably a bad center bearing, and check the universal joints at each end also, replace the center bearing, with the rubber in it, and maybe, the Universal joints, and your vibrations, should go away
Hope this helps
