2007 Camry XLE Premium Sound ASL Question

I have a question about the ASL (Auto Sound Level) for my 2007 Camry XLE.

The ASL will only turn "OFF" and "ON". You can't adjust it (high medium and low) as the manual suggests you can. While at the dealer for something else, they tried and couldn't figure it out either.

Do you guys have some suggestions?

Also, do you know anything about disabling the DING for the seatbelt reminder? It drives me NUTS! Yeah yeah, I know... I should wear my belt... But sometimes I just don't want... lol

The dealer tried disabling it as the Owners Manual said they could, they read that section of the owners manual too. The Accessories Manager hooked up a diagnostics box and was able to see the menu for the Seatbelt reminder but when he selected that function, the computer booted him out to a main screen.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Does that mean yours is is acting the same way?

Please keep me updated!
Yes, they all are as far as I can tell. I posted this same issue about three weeks ago. If you have the Nav unit then you get 3 selections (low, mid, high). I have Toyota and my dealer involved in this. So far they have contacted Panasonic to see what's up. Yes, I said Panasonic. I know it's a JBL system, but its made for Toyota by Panasonic. Weird huh..... As soon as I get the final word, I'll post it for everyone.

Does your Panasonic/JBL system display Radio Broadcast Data System (RDS) on the FM stations that broadcast it. It should display the station, song name and artist.

The Toyota University Publication (2007 Camry & Camry Hybrid) published by Toyota Canada for dealer internal training says all 3 factory audio systems have it.

Mine doesn't and email answers from Toyota say to take it to the dealer for inspection. They won't confirm that all radios have RDS or not.

Downloads of Toyota manuals on the NAV system describe the RDS for those systems but no other manuals mention the JBL system.

Anybody else have RDS?????

I don't know about the owner's manual instruction but The Toyota Repair Instruction - Customize Parameters says the seat belt warning can be shut off by the dealer using intelligent controls or using this procedure:

Drivers side:

1. turn the ignition switch on
2. press the odo/trip switch until the odometer displays "ODO"
3. Ignition switch off
4. turn ignition switch on
5. press the odo/trip switch immediatedly (within 6 seconds) and hold it down for 10 seconds or more,
6. continue holding down the odo/trip switch and fasten the driver side seat belt
7. check that the odometer displays either "b-on" or b-off"
8. press the odo/trip switch to change the display to "b-off"
9. ignition switch off
10 turn the ignition switch on
11. check that no buzzer sounds.

Passenger seat:

1-4 same as above
5. sit in front passenger seat, then 5 above
6. sit in the passenger seat, then 6 above for the passenger seat belt
7-11 same as above.

If the battery is disconnected you will have to repeat the procedures.

Dealer can customize auto a/c and adjust outside and inside temps, change theft deterrent system, change illuminated entry options, change auto light control and sensitivities, change door lock and wireless door lock parameters, change smart key operations, change volume of key reminder warning buzzer, and change speed cycle of key reminder sound.

Let me know if it works?

I am not positive, but I think on MY XLE with NAV that you can only adjust the ASL level while the car is moving. I may be wrong, and I will try to check this tomorrow. However, I am pretty sure I noticed this before and that was what I found.

Mike
I have NAV and I can only turn it off and on, but I notice that while I drive it automatically adjusts the level from low ot med. to high as demonstrated by the change in blue highlight on the icon on my screen.

I've got the XLE system, no NAV, and just an on/off control for ASL. No difference whether I'm moving or not -- just on or off. I'm thinking that the better systems might well just be moving automatically, compared to the manual control you have over the cheaper systems. :dunno:

njerald,

vbmenu_register("postmenu_1249944", true); I tried your method and couldn't get it to work. I tried various ways with the multifunction display and none would get me into that menu. Is it for earlier generations of Camrys or the 2007 model?

Thanks for trying thought.. Do you have any more ideas?

It is for the 2007. I haven't tried it because I'm not interested in the change.

And for what its worth, I did try adjusting the ASL while driving and anything other than ON and OFF is not possible..

Anyone else have suggestions?

And I DO NOT have the Nav feature installed in my car... Just the Premium Sound with 6 disc changer.
Same with mine.

Does the RDS work on your applicable FM stations?

This is what the Toyota Service Bulletin says about ASL with NAV:

Automatic sound levelizer (ASL)

When the audio sound becomes difficult to be
heard due to road noise, wind noise or other
noises while driving, the system adjusts to the
optimum volume according to the noise level.
To turn this function on, touch “ASL” on the
audio control screen.

I have the JBL and it doesn't do RDS. I looked in manual and all it says is the "Type" button (top left of radio) is for displaying when using an XM radio. It looks like they left out the RDS for the FM portion of radio.

I meet with the Toyota Rep tomorrow on the ASL issue. I need to get something straight. This question applies to the 2007 Camry with standard radio that comes in the LE. It is my understanding that this radio will do RDS as well as it has the "Lo, Mid, High" for the ASL. Do I have this correct??? My service rep contacted Panasonic and they said that for our model radio (JBL Premium), there is only "On and Off". I say bull. Anyway, I'll let you know the outcome of my meeting.
Forgot to ask about 2007 with Nav. It is my understanding that RDS works and you have the "Lo, Mid, High" for ASL. Is this correct. Thanks

Another question for those of you who have the full ASL. How can you tell if it's working? Can you see it changing volume level? Say the volume is at 10. If the noise level goes up, will you see the 10 go up to say 15 or something. What visual prove is there that it is working?

Updated Info on ASL Function (or lack thereof)

I have a Sienna van with the premium JBL system, and hear no evidence that the ASL does anything at all. It just has the On/Off, no hi/med/low. Just wondering if 'jjthenovice' found out anything concrete from his meeting with the Toyota rep. Does JJ or anyone else have any updated info on the ASL problem?

jjthenovice,

Not sure if you read my earlier topic about the 2007 Camry LE that I had to take back before I got the XLE, but in the "LE" I was able to change the ASL from LOW MED to HIGH.
That was with the basic JBL AM/FM single disc CD player.

Now that I have the XLE with 6 disc changer (No NAV), I can only change from ASL ON to ASL OFF. And even with the ASL OFF, it doesn't make much of a difference That or my hearing is too far gone from fixing airliners the past 13 or so years.

My Owners Manual says that I should be able to choose between ASL LOW, MED and HIGH just like I assume everyone else's does... Please let us know what you find out!

As for the "Full ASL", in the '07 LE I took back it made a BIG difference on ASL HIGH. I loved it! The numerical value of the volume didn't change on the display if I recall... But the sound sure did!

Now if I could only get that blasted Seat Belt reminder to shut up (disabled)..... :disappoin

In my LE, there is no visual indication the system is working.

But you can hear the increase in volume when you hit 10/15mph, then again around 25/30mph the volume increases again and the bass kicks in. Not sure if it increases again at highway speeds, since I don't drive much on highways anymore

And for what it's worth, I leave it set at ASL HIGH at all times.

So we paid extra for the 440 watt system and it won't do the ASL like a base sytem or the RDS??? What a deal!!!

With my ASL switched on, I notice no increase in sound volume. Maybe they left it out completely except for the on and off setting.

Even in My F-150 my ASL and RDS worked!!!!

What's RDS? :dunno: ;)

Hehehehe, I know what you're talking about, but I've sure never seen or heard it in this neck of the woods.

FWIW, if I turn off the ASL while I'm at speed, the volume does go down, and then back up if I turn it back on. So, the thing at least does seem to work....

About 1/2 of the FM stations broadcast RDS in the Seattle area.

Check your area out by frequency: http://www.rdslist.com/update.php

It's big in the UK.

I've contacted Toyota also about both these items.
