I am about to purchase a 2009 Highlander. I have spoke with the dealer, got my trade-in price where I want it and the highlander price where I want it.

Now its time for the financing. Would you recommend that I go through the dealer or a credit union or something?

Since most of you already have highlanders can you recommend anything to me? Should I look out for anything? Should I ask them to include anything? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to make this purchase within the next week.

Thanks,

Drew

Hi Drew....and :welcome:

What Trim level are you getting ? Base/Sport/Limited ? What you can get from a dealer depends on a few factors..namely how much your gonna spend overall.

As far as financing I would compare what the dealer has to a credit union if you belong to one. You don't care who you borrow from just as long as it is the lowest % rate. I bought a limited so there wasn't too much to "throw" in for teh vehicle. I did get him to move on option prices though.

Best of Luck and keep us posted. Always a good thing when another HL owner comes into the fold. It is an awesome site with great members.

Stay off the Moores and stay away from the TOYO A20 tires.

just got mine 7/7/09....i financed with toyota.....didnt have the time to look around for better, i am sure i could have got a better rate....i looked at pilot prior to picking HL, and they offered 0%.....Im still low considering i didnt bother to look.....i also did the cash for clunkers....traded a beater jeep and got 3500 bucks....jeep wasnt worth anything, i got a trade in value of 500 bucks 3 years ago at jeep....lol....couldnt pass up the trade.....if u are tight with cash, then i suggest u look for the best rate before u go.....the only think i keep second guessing is my purchase of the extended warrenty and extended maintenance programs toyota offers....or i should say...IN DIRECTLY FORCED with MAJOR GUILT AND "YOU BE SORRY!!!!" shoved down my throat....it was already past midnight when i was finalizing my purchase....i guess that type of sales technique is in thier "how to sell to people" handbook......good luck......god forbid u ask them to throw in a keychain.....whhoooooaaaaaaaa.......grez

Ok so here is my deal so far.

I am trading in a VW GTI. I owe 13k and the dealer is giving me 13k.

I will be buying either a magnetic gray w dark gray interior or black/black highlander. Its the Sport 4x4. I got the dealer to just about the invoice price.

The highlander also comes with a lifetime warranty. unlimited years and mileage. I checked intot it, its the real deal.

Given that, is there anything else I should ask about, check into, or ask for? I should have included more information last time.

Finally, is there special financing on the 09 Highlanders? I heard that somewhere but cannot find anything out about it.

Don't know about any 09 financing deals....In any case ask for the moon. Ask for a toyo hitch, floor mats, mud guards, etc...etc. I think the 09's come with the cross rails for the roof. The o8's it was an option.

I have never purchased a maintenance warranty. And I have no regrets over the past 20 years of buying cars. My dealer gave me mud flaps...doh. But that was b4 the market tanked. Hopefully some more recent buyers will pop in and have more recent experiences to share. At the very least also ask for a 10% discount on all future accessory parts purchased. The worst anyone can say is no..and that's always free...lol

It's a great vehicle and I love mine. I have no regrets buying the HL over the Honda Pilot, Murano, Mazda or Buiick Acadia I looked at.

Best of Luck and Happy Motoring !!

:worship:

BTW I had owned a 1988 GTI 16V...what a fun car that was..

I got the magnetic gray with black leather interior on my HL Sport. Looks good to me so I'm happy, but I think the other color combos you mention would be also be good. Also, the cross rails do not come standard on the 2009--must pay for them or talk the dealer into giving you them as part of the deal.

i thought the black leather would be too hot here in socal, but its really not that bad after u open the doors for a sec and wait. once in the a/c in auto takes care of the heat in a few minutes. its tolerable for me, since i like to take my time getting in, putting stuff away. got the leather for kids and the crumbs that follow them around, plus the juice and cheese puffs. if u are back east i dont think u will have any probs with black. i didnt pick a blk/blk for fear of heat.

take the time with a calculator and work out payments between 2.9% and the 1k....me personally i always pay more than min payment per month....if thats your case, figure the lowest payment and hammer a few more bucks on top of that and clear loan....it will beef up your credit score after.....also look at 48 month numbers.....i did 48 months cuz i was willing to go up to 400 a month. my biggest thing is the compound interest. they want u to take the longer loan.....its more for them.

Thanks. I always pay more than what my monthly payment is anyway. So I will continue to do that. If my payment is $350 then I will usually pay $450 or $500.

I dont know. I picked the black highlander with black cloth. I know the exact car I want. I just am a little nervous to seal the deal. I do not feel like I am getting a bad deal. I just dont want to sign and then find out they screwed me somehow. Then again, they do this every single day, I do it once every 5 years. They will win somehow.

lol...it boils down to this...is it what u want?

i put my co-workers/family/friends thru hell the last 2 weeks asking this and that, color and everything else.....when i came home with it....everyone asked just that.....is it what u want?........so all things considered, your willingness to pay X amount a month and color, etc.......u got what u wanted.....i am sure they got the best of me somewhere in the sales scaming process.....get close to what u are willing and jump in.....i love my HL
