Dear Forum,
There is a Thread addressing this but I see it has dwindled out.
I just purchased a used 2010 Camry with 4-cyl engine and automatic Trans. There is a rattle noise every time I start the car from a cold start. Lo and behold there is a Service Bulletin for just this problem:
T-SB-0146-10 June 9, 2010 Brief Engine Knock/Rattle at Cold Startup (1AR/2AR)
This also applies to the 2009-2-11 Highlander, 09-11 RAV4, 2011 Sienna and 09-11 Venza.
So I check out the warranty covered work only to find it covers up to 6 years or 60,000 miles. My car is four years old, but has 87,000 miles. Evidently the previous owner did not take time to have the work done or it was not significant when he owned it to take it in for Warranty repair.
So couple questions??
~Is there any hope of having the work pro-rated by Toyota dealer, given it is a known problem? I doubt it but has anyone had success dealing with Toyota on this issue?
~If I cannot get it done with Toyota help, how much will getting the repair done at my usual mechanic? The procedure calls out buying certain parts, by the way.
~What happens if I DO NOT repair this loud noise? Is it lack of oil getting to certain parts, something else?
Your experience and such would be appreciated.
Thank you,
