Morning everyone, Got a 2010 Corolla S with 110k miles on it and the starter is starting to make a grinding sound when cold and not driven for a couple of days. Anyway, I want to rebuild it and can't find a recommended kit in the threads that is actually for my 1.8L engine.

Also what type of grease do you recommend for greasing up the moving parts? I see that electrical contact fluid is used to clean the rest as it leaves no residue.

2000+ members and not one of you has rebuilt the starter on a 2010 S Corolla???

 

Thats because no-one is producing a decent kit.
I'd take it off, open it up, clean up the armature , plunger and contacts. Little emory cloth and contact spray cleaner.
I used a touch of lithium grease but oil or bearing grease will work, they take very little.

This could also be the cold start rattle. I get this as well when I don't drive for a few hours or more. Basically on cold starts.

i appreciate the info for sure. I don't believe that my noise is the rattle I heard in the video. My car has sat for weeks at a time and no issue or noise when starting. I can hear the starter not disengaging as quickly as it should. I'm going to clean up the starter and I'll report back. I'll keep everyone updated and hopefully it's just my starter in need of a clean up.
