I need to replace the windshield of my 2010 Toyota Corolla. I am not going through my insurance since I have a high comprehensive deductible.

1) Can anyone suggest what kind of windshield does 2010 Corrolla have? Is it an acoustic interlayer windshield? how important it is to use an acoustic interlayer windshield?

2) I did some shopping around. I found a wide range of prices at different places, starting from around $200 to $400 for acoustic interlayer windshield. What would be a good brand that I should use?

3) Is acoustic interlayer windshield cheaper than non-acoustic windshields for 2010 Corrola? At least one vendor told me so; the reason is the manufacturers are are making more acoustic windshields than non-acoustic for these new models. Is that true?

Thanks to all.

Yes non-acoustic is cheaper that is what most cheaper glass companies use and dont tell the customer.

Thanks to all.
Pretty much go for OEM, might cost more but you know it fits and color is correct.

Thanks a lot for you reply. I asked several repair shops. Most of them are saying they will use Pilkington brand. Also, the price for the acoustic interlayer windshield they quote for Pilkington brand is about $30 higher than the non-acoustic one. So I am a little concerned when they say they will use acoustic windshield, whether they will really use the acoustic one.

Today I will find out if some shops will use PGW.

Is there any way to know from the glass whether it is a acoustic interlayer or not?

I looked at the marking of my original windshield. It does not appear to have any explicit information that it is acoustic. However I will say that I am notcompletely familiar with the codes used in the marking. The marking is as follows:

TOYOTA
AGC Automotive
E6 4BR-000081
DOT-20 M814 AS1
10S
LAMISAFE

In the web I found that some acoustic windshield shave a 'ear' symbol, but some do not have any explicit markings.

I am planning to use a Pilkington since most shops mention/use it. I found two part numbers: FW02899 and FW02959 which can be used for 2010 Corolla. I was wondering which one should I use.

Also, is it preferable to use some USA/Canada built windshields? I heard that Pilkington windshields are made all over the world and not all may be of same quality even if they have the same part number.

Thanks.

Those are both the same part from what I see, also looked at my windshield today it is a pilkington. I never heard problems with a none US/canada made windshield. As for the symbol I am sure some companies put them, I was told by a tech that pilkington uses a small a with a line on the very top on the drivers side corner.

My 2012 Canadian made corolla has a Pilkington, That being said I happen to work at TMMC building corollas and I put the windshields in. This will shock you! We pay $14 per windshield! mind you we use 1000 per day.

Im here in Miami and i found a place that uses only PGW glass. I have a 2011 Toyota Corolla and i was able to get the windshield PGW brand Part# Fw2899 with acoustic interlayer for $130 with tax and installation included. Glass came with molding attached and a lifetime warranty on the installation, aside of my honda, these people did a hell of a job on both of my cars with insane pricing.

Auto Glass R Us
1495 NW 119 Street in North Miami. You should check them out, all they use is PGW and buy literally straight from the factory, and they distribute it too.
