I have a 2012 Camry Le 4cyl with 120,000km on it. (I do a lot of driving). I've been having problem with the shifting when accelerating from a stop. The car jerks while upshifting to third gear at around 25km/hr. I've had the shop Forman at the local Toyota dealership test drive the car with me in it, and he concluded that the Torque Converter needed to be replaced. The quote to replace the torque converter is $2018 (Canadian dollars).
I was only able to recreate the problem when the warranty expired at 100,000km and to my misfortune, Toyota Canada will not honor any repair work, so i'm stuck with the $2018 repair bill.
Is this normal for a car that's gotten 50/50 city/highway driving while carrying an average of 2 passenger in an area where there is no mountains to fail at about 100,000km?
I've owned 12 cars that I've bought brand new, and put on over 200,000km on each one of them. This is first time that I've had transmission-toque converter problems .
suggestions?
btw, other then the transmission problem, the 4cyl 2012 Camry is a very nice car. It does everything right. but, because of the transmission(torque converter) problem, I will never buy a Toyota again. I've lost faith in their reliability.
