It looks fine, a little too much like a large Corolla but certainly better looking than our Gen 6s. A lot more Acura looking, just much sharper in general.

SE is MUCH classier looking. No more cheap ricey body kit. I think Toyota was the only maker who put a body kit on their car to make it the "SE" while the other makers all made sure to make it look sportier without.

The whole car is vastly improved except for internals, which I assume they will upgrade with the mid-cycle refresh.

Yep, other than the interior (which is easy to make better IMO) it's going to be one of those cars that will have to grow on you. At first blush, I think it looks more like a big Civic than anything else. But heck, a lot of people hated the Gen6 when it first came out too. Once we see a Gen7 with wheels and slammed, we might be having second thoughts...

I like the new interior better but honestly I am not feeling the exterior. I think they went a step back. The front is a bit too similar to something with an Acura badge and the rear is...simply odd.

I'm trading in my 2007 Camry SE V6 for a 2011 Lexus IS 350 AWD. Especially after seeing the new Camry, I absolutely don't regret this decision...

Okay I posted this in 4 other threads, but it appears this is the proper thread to post in, so last time, I promise:

Just getting back to work from dropping by the Paramount Studio to see the new Camry...um...I am SO HAPPY I have a gen 6!!!!

Seriously, the new Camry is Fugly to the core! The whole back half is exactly the same as gen 6, except they ruined the tail lights. They look straight out of 1998 or something. The lights don't wrap around the back of the car any more and really square the back end out making it look older and dated.

The front end is terrible, and looks exactly like a bigger corolla. Not that corolla's are bad, but if you are getting the Toyota name brand car of their fleet, it should distinguish it self a bit more from it's lower priced family members. The hood lip seems like it is mis alligned and almost folding over the front bumper. Seriously, I was totally un enamored with the exterior looks of this car. Just boring, period, and a few steps backwards in time.

Now the interior...while it looks like they definitely stepped up production quality of the interior, it is waaaaaaaay to busy and cluttered looking. The dash lines are cheap and make it look like someone threw one of those cheap carpet dash covers over the top. Really bad looking and unattractive design. The use of better quality materials is evident as their was much more leather and actual stitching, and the faceplate over the gear shifter looked really sweet in what looked like a silver brushed or painted wood grain. (Might have to see about installing something like that in my gen 6.) Over all, parts of the interior look much better and the quality is a step up, but when you put it all together, it really is too busy and cluttered looking as with any appliance that has a ton of buttons and switches, it looks like there is going to be a lot to have to fix on this Camry down the line.

I obviously didn't get to test drive the car, no one does until the fall, so all these statements I have made are based purely on the design and looks of the car. IMO....this generation Camry is a major FAIL in looks and design. Just my opinion so far.

While there are many areas of your post that I agree, the top above quoted is what I agree with the most. People harp on how bad the interior quality was compared to the prior generations, but it was still much better than what GM or Ford made in 2006. (This obviously has improved some ...)

However, this design in the interior is certainly not what I would consider elegant. I really liked the two tone design in the Gen 6, it may not look great in tan/beige that the LEs have, but it's was very "Lexusesque". This thing from the 12 year? I just don't see it.

I just don't see that big of a change here, and a down grade in interior, engine performance (okay greater MPG, but not much) and design of the rear. Wow that rear is something else.

i think it looks horrible starting with the honda civic-esque hood line, messed up grille and lower valence, the slab doors, the droopy rear bumper. the interior isn't doing much for me either (not a fan of the charlie brown sweater stripe on the seats).

maybe it will grow on me or appear better in person, but right now i just don't know. i really think the passat is a better effort. yes it's bland, but it has a more upscale, cohesive look in my opinion.

edit: the Mark X is what I would have liked. Not this.

What Edmunds Says

Fresh off a full redesign last year, the 2012 Hyundai Sonata remains the car to beat in its class.

Pros:
Lots of standard and optional features for the money; stylish and comfortable cabin; top fuel economy; strong safety scores; lengthy warranty.

Cons:
Distinctive styling affects rear headroom; rough ride in SE trim.
