I’ve got a 2012 highlander that I am told by my mechanic has a bad temperature door actuator. $1000 bucks to fix it, but he says I can probably do it myself. Fast forward to today. Got the dash all torn apart and down to the hvac box. Got the two actuators on the passenger side which I have gathered are for the recirculation door and the mode selector. Now for the temperature control.....mechanic says it’s just above the gas pedal there, but I can’t see it. Can anyone give me any insight on where it is? Does the whole hvac box have to come out? If so, what needs to be done to get that out. Kinda in over my head, I appreciate any advice.

Makes me glad to know I have cables on my 2000Echo and 98 Sienna. Brother had a heater core replaced on his Thunderbird. 14 months later the replacement started leaking and the shop owner had died from a heart attack. Sometimes OEM is the only realistic option. The shop had a stellar reputation for decades, father passed it down to his ex marine son who was a mountain of a man and your best friend in a dark alley with danger ahead. Truly sad to loose him.
