Hello,

I currently have a 2014 Camry LE with 135k miles on it. I started noticing the shudder about 10k miles ago but didn't think anything of it. Now it has become more prominent and I went to a dealer and they quoted me $3,700 for a new torque converter and update. Has anyone had any luck with a new TC fixing the issue?

I just don't want to fork out close to 4 grand just to have the issue reappear in 10k miles.

Please let me know what my options are.

Thanks,

Carson

Word is if you have it replaced soon enough and not let it go too long and have the update done it should be good from there. A lot of talk on this forum has mentioned trying to replace the majority of transmission fluid to try to baby it along but no one that I've noticed has ever followed up on how that's worked out for them. Either way if you do have the torque converter replaced and update done, make sure to stay on top of fluid changes because condition of the fluid is key from there.

my 2014 Camry with 175000 had the shutter, let it ride for for awhile till it became almost constant. Dealer diagnosed the torque converter, unfortunately the extended replacement window was up and they wouldn’t do anything to help. Quoted $4000 for the repair. Did it myself. Borrowed engine lift and removed the motor in my garage. Removal went well, just followed a couple videos on YouTube. definitely Doable if you have basic skills and tools. Used valvaline maxlife fluid with the repair. Now at 195000, still going strong.

my daughters 2014 Camry is starting to shutter (145000) . A transmission shop said to put in Shutterfix from autozone and see if that helps. Actually produced a noticeable improvement, almost no shutter. Also a few years back we used the Shutterfix product in our 2010 highlander which had a slight shutter and it removed about 80% of my issue and we never did anything more with it. It’s a $10 option that is definitely worth trying.
