Hello everyone I was hoping to get people’s opinions on how I should handle this situation. I am the first and only owner of this car. I have done all my service at the local dealership in Spokane. The first failure occured when the vehicle had just over 100,000 miles. I was nice to my service guy but highlighted that I had done all my service at the dealer and it was unacceptable that the transmission failed. I pointed out my 4Runner had made it to 300k and my wife’s CAMRY had over 200k. He reached out to corporate Toyota who agreed to cover the cost of the trims soon if I paid the labor. I agreed to cover the labor.
There was an issue though, the only transmission that they could get was a rebuilt transmission. I agreed to the rebuilt transmission since it would take over 6 months to get a new toyota transmission. I didn’t know this at the time, but the service guy told me a year later that there had been a major issue with the replacement. Toyota had agreed to cover a Toyota transmission not a rebuilt transmission and when the paperwork came through for approval, Toyota rejected it. I had already been told the replacement was covered, so the dealership ended up paying for the rebuilt transmission themselves.
Fast forward another 60k miles and I started to notice a strange whining noise. I took to the dealership and they said it was coming from the transmission. They dropped the pan and the magnet was full of metal shaving. The dealership told me the transmission would need to be replaced.
The dealership said the warrant period had ended on the replacement and they were no longer allowed to call Toyota support to advocate for the customer anymore.
I am kind of surprised that the dealership is washing their hands of this. My thought is Toyota already agreed to replace the transmission so why not reach out to Toyota and help advocate to get them to cover it again.
I need to call Toyota and explain the situation, I can‘t believe this car has gone through 2 transmissions.
Any suggestions or advice on how to deal with this situation.
