There is just a click and a long beep and the hatch won’t open. Was working fine then last time I opened it it came up just a little and wouldn’t open or close had to push to close it.

Hello Roomeyv1,

This is because the power trunk was turned off.

In the multi-information display(the display on the gauge cluster), which is controlled from the steering wheel. navigate to the settings screen indicated by the little gear/cog icon.

In these menus, you will see a setting for PBD( might be BPD can't remember lol mild dyslexia here) once in this screen you will notice the setting is turned off. you should also see options for beep volume and height... This should resolve your issue.

I understand and am sorry I missed that in your initial statement.
The solution is that the height has been accidentally adjusted,, one long beep is the sound it makes when opening normally.

push the button to open the trunk, once it does its thing you will notice it at least unlatches. even if it does not open.
at this point manually pull the trunk all the way open and set at its highest point.
once the above is done, push and hold the rubber/plastic trunk button on the underside of the trunk, as if you were done and wanted to close it.. but hold it until you hear a series of beeps. afterward, the trunk height should be reset to its highest point and should open and close as normal.
I have the same exact problem ... but mine stop working after it got stock by snow going up.
I close the door manually and now I cannot open it for the life of me. Even using the inside of the trunk latch release ... any suggestions ?

Exact samething for me, RAV4 xle 2019.
It unlatches, opens less then a inch, and I got a long beep. It's random, sometime with the remote, sometime with inside button, summer or winter. Then I gently push to close it, and retry with the gate button and then it works.
I called my dealer cuz it drives me grazy, they said I'm not the only one, they already in contact with Toyota, they put me on their callback list. I hope they will find a solution.

The power struts have occasionally given some grief, but I've been told that these are very sensitive to a weak battery.
My wife often lets her car sit for a week at a time, and every now and then she'd have problems with her hatch not opening.
If the engine was running, or she was driving every couple of days, she'd not have a problem.

2020 rav4 hybrid, trunk as now failed twice, long beep with an unlock but will not open. I never touch the hatch when it is operating. Struts were replaced both times, but each time the car has had to go to a body shop because the trunk/hinges get torqued when forcing open hatch to get at struts for replacement. Toyota denies there is a systemic problem, but the last fix lasted only 10 months. Warranty is just about out so this will be very expensive to keep fixing every year or so. I am converting to manual, which Toyota will not due because it is ‘changing’ the spec of the car. I did not want the auto hatch when I bought it but it was the closest car that had the features I wanted. Love the car, but the rear auto hatch has been nothing but trouble.

Those having issues, what's your battery condition?
These power liftgates are very sensitive to low voltage. The long beep followed by no movement is what my wife's '15 Rav did when the battery was low.
She never had a problem when the car was running, or after driving it, but she frequently has her car parked for a week at a time since she doesn't work, so the battery would often be low when she would initially try to open her gate.

I see similar with the Venza. Though she has not had any problems with the gate not opening, I have noticed that her battery will drop to below 12v. It's not a problem with the hybrid system, but it might be a problem for the tailgate.

I have used on my RAV4 (5th gen) a bike carrier that straps-on the rear hatch for 3 bikes about 60 lbs worth. This may have resulted in the rear hatch becoming misaligned and no longer opening and closing smoothly - though it still closed. It has never been a problem on any other SUV with hatch I've owned. The Toyota body shop at DARCARS in Maryland won't honor the warranty stating that the car was abused. What happened to the RAV4 outdoor adventure SUV? I've examined the hinges and their flimsy as a child's toy. They do appear to be torqued. If Toyota uses cheep parts the least they can do is replace them when they fail. BTW, for others with this problem, I just bought the parts and replaced them - $40 each. It was no harder than swapping out the hinges on a door in your home. Solved the problem and saved $1000+.

So frustrating, I have a 2022 Rav 4 off road, I open the back door and wouldn’t fully open because very cold and snow build up. So I closed it manually, now it won’t open at all. I turn of in setting and on several times still will not open. Anyone know how to get open? I watch a video online but it is not the same as mine, help please. TY

I have a 2019 Rav4 and am experiencing the same problem. Had to manually close the rear door because it would not properly open (likely snow and ice build-up). Now, when I attempt to open it, I get a long beep but no movement. I turned the PBD settings off and and, to no avail. Am not even able to open it manually, either inside or outside. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You have to unplug the 12V battery (+ is enough) for a few seconds and plugin again. I had the same problem, that door stucked in halfway up and i had to close it manualy. After that I had just a long beep and door stayed closed.
