I had been using the Toyota remote start for a year and now I have to pay a $15 a month subscription fee. I called Toyota support and there’s no stripped down plan for less than $15 or anyway to remote start it. I checked a few message boards from various support groups and found a way to use it. Using the key fob hit the door lock button quickly 2 times and then hit it again for at least 3 seconds, the vehicle will then start.

Cool - that feature exits on many Toyota models going back to the early 2010s - 3 presses on lock and hold the last one until the park lights blink then release.
Now does it have the feature I don't like - it turns the engine off when you go to unlock vehicle? I hate that.
