i've seen gen5's with 20's before...almost sure you'll have to roll your fenders...i'd go with 19's and drop it 1" or so.

ohh hhmmm... i dnt think im gon roll the fenders. looks complicated and dnt have the right tools to do it. but um.. has anybody tried 20" on a gen5.5?? if not.. im jss gon get 19" just to be safe... what yal think

 

i jss went outside and measured the wheel well.. its about 29" ..
if i were to get 20" rims.. with low pro tires.. i think its safe. leaving close to 1-2inches in between from the tire to the wheel well.. hmm...

 

also you'll be riding on rubber bands

 

if you google 'miata tire calulator' youll get a page where you can input your current wheel and tire specs, and you can figure out what size of tire you can get with 20's

if i recall correctly from my parents car, the stock size is 215/60/16, and if so, then you can go with a 215/35(or maybe even 40)/20, as long as you get the same width rim

 

i am buyin new rims this month.. does anybody know if 20inch rims will rub on a standard gen5.5 xle v6 camry?? or a certain profile tire i shud get inorder for it not to rub and also have a smooth ride?? or shud i jss get 19inch rims?

What do you have now steeles or oem rims? If OEM rims are you going to get rid of them?

 

i hae oem rims. and no im not gettin rid of them. gotta keep them for the winter time :] .. or else id b slippin erywhere haha.

Slow Down

It seems like you're really rushing into this. Look around, use the search feature, etc to get your answers. Do you know what mm offset you should be running or what size lugs nuts you need? Also are you getting metal or plastic hubcentric rings? If you can't answer ALL of these questions then you're nowhere near ready. Jon.

 

the rims offset is 38mm ... lug nuts can b handled by my installer. and the hubcentric rings are plastic... so what you thinkk??

38mm with what width wheel? What sidewall ratio are you going to use to maintain your speedometer? What is your tire width to avoid hitting the struts with the 38mm offset? Why plastic when metal is more reliable?

 

8.5 width... im not sure what the sidewall ratio is. ive had 18" rims.. with 8.5width wheels with the same offset. everything was fine with that. and plastic now.. i can swap for metal later. the only reason why i am rushin to get these rims is because my prom is coming up. and i want to get them ASAP.. as long as i can ride them smooth for 1 night.. all the upgrades can b done later on.... but what is the sidewall ratio thing??

 

I would go with 19s. My 17s look good to me. 18s would be pretty big and 19s! ridiculous but go for it! 20s......dunno about that. =X i'd go with 19s and the drop if you're looking to go big.

 

wow, i have 18x8.5s on my gen5.5 cam and i had to roll my fenders. it really depends on the amount of people you have in your car. if you are full, then most likey if you hit a bump you would hear the fenders scrap along the tires

 

rolling fenders for 18"s?! did u lower your car?? i had 18"s on my car and i still had alot of gap in between.

Nobody rolls the fender because of diameter but because of width. Stick to 7, 7.5 or 8" WIDE max. Jon.
