22r EGR valve removed does it need a blocking plate?

My Aussie Hilux 22r motor doesn't have a blocking plate at the rear of the engine. Does the hole where the EGR was at some time cause any specific problem if it is left unblocked?

I've just replaced the head but can't remember a plate being in place when I stripped it down.

G'day, If you've got the original Aussie spec exhaust manifold bolted on, then there isn't a worry about the EGR hole on the back left being blocked. Australia and NZ spec 22R's came with built in blocked EGR ports on the exhaust manifold. Best way to check if a block off is needed is to start the engine and check that there isn't exhaust fumes coming out of the EGR hole. If there is... then block it up!
