so i have a 1993 toyota p/u 4x4 it has a 22re in it now i spun a rod bearing however and picked up an 89 22re with 80k for $200 so i am going to swap motors and then rebuild the my original motor latter. i am kinda thrown off tho the motor i purchased says 22re on the valve cover but had a vacum advance on the ditributor and no knock sensor. does anyone have any clue on this? also i wanted to know how to put a knock sensor in and weather or not i could use the vacum advanced distributor for the efi setup? all input will be appreciated.

yea i know that the motor i purchased is a 22r it was originally carbed they just put a 22re valve cover on it for some reason. so i am basically just gonna throw my intake manifold and exhaust manifold on it and tap out a hole in the block for my knock sensor and it should be able to run like stock form what i understand. i am swapping all the components as well as replacing some seals and the water pump on Tuesday and then mounting my tranny up to it. so it should be fairly easy with minimal differences. but of course i am basing all this off of advice i have received from other people i have not done the work myself yet but i dont see any issue with the advice i have received. so if anyone has anything to add i would greatly appreciate it.

yea from 86 to 95 the blocks were the same except for a few casting differences on the outside of the block they have a few spots different like mounting points for the knock sensors if it was fuel injected or spots were the fuel filter mounts up on the left side of the block is different. but from 76 to like 85 the blocks were like a half inch shorter or longer or something and they were a little bit wider by like a half inch from what i hear. but other than that and of course the cam lob durations change a little bit every so often threw the years they is no real big differences.
