had to replace a battery today, didnt realize I needed 27f for tow package until I went back to install it. I got a duralast gold 24f battery, it has 40 more cold cranking amps than the stock 27f. Will this be a problem or should I change it out?
Why? I tow a boat with my taco but I was scratching my head trying to understand why I would need more reserve over cranking. Maybe if I had electric brakes (which I don't) or liked to run my trailer's electrical devices off the truck (which I don't). The trailers lights do take additional power but I don't use them with the truck turned off so that's on the alternator. Maybe if I was dead on the side of the road with my four way flashers on while towing. That's a lot of ifs.For a vehicle with tow package, I'd get a 27F, like Dark Taco said, it has a higher reserve. Higher Cold Cranking Amps = Less reserve and if you tow, you'll need the reserve more than you will cold cranking amps.
Hey partsman, does Johnson Controls still make the 27F? I have a circa 2006 27F - it has the little green eye. Still works great, no problems. When it dies, I'd like to replace it with the same if it still exists....
I got it at autozone, they dont carry a 27F, anybody know a place that does? going to try an interstate batteries tomorrow, anybody know if they make good batteries?
I'm looking at a group 27F mega-tron plus 710cca interstate battery, will this do the job? cant see the reserve minutes on the website
