did you clean the intake by taking it apart from the IACV and also the egr and it's subcomponents? when's the last time you replaced the PCV, plugs, wires, air/fuel filter, etc.? what's the maint history of the car and year/motor/trans?

 

All the normal items were cleaned. PCV was replaced. Egr was cleaned and working. Mechanic had cleaned them last week. I had this car not too long but it will still do 400 rpm under that condition.

All of those items were done last week. I been having this issue since day one.

94 Camry with 2.2 5sfe engine and A140E transmission.

 

pull the green wire off the coolant temp sensor and see if that changes it...

yes, it should just take a sec to pop it off (once you search the haynes to see where it is - it's the 2 wire, not the 1 wire) and back on to see if it changes the idle speed.

The car did it this morning. Hot start and it idle at 400rpm. Pull the plug and it start to limp very slowly to at least 700. In gear it was about 900rpm. The check engine light was on the whole time the sensor was pulled.

 

If I pull the green plug to the water, the car no longer will idle up in this situation.
Now today this is what happened. I parking the car after exiting the freeway and went shopping for 20 minutes. Coming out I had a low idle of 400 rpm, so I let it go for about 20 seconds or so. Then I gently rev the engine to 1000 rpm and held it there for 20 seconds. After letting go the engine now idles perfectly at 700 rpm. I am out of ideas how to fix this issue.

 

did you clean the intake and IAC valve by taking it apart from the intake and then taking the IACV off of the throttle body? i kinda asked that before but i can't tell if you were including that with the normal stuff that was done.

Yes, the idle air control was clean off of the throttle body. I am thinking that I did not clean the throttle body area enough. Maybe something was left over and I did not clean it that well.
I will update later to see if that is the case.
