50k maintenance

Hi all,

Posted this on rav4world as well and thought might post here as well for a wider exposure.

My 3 year lease on my 2019 RAV4 Adventure is reaching maturity very soon and I am in the process of purchasing the car.

I have 47k miles on it (I travel for work a fair amount), and now that the car is mine I am starting planning on various preventative maintenance to be done in the near future.

Being a lease initially car is pretty stock for now.

Dealer already suggested one of the fluids without me even asking (transfer case or rear differential, will ask them again next time I am there, but I remember it cost $299).

I am considering changing spark plugs (probably a bit early, I believe recommended is 60k but they are inexpensive).

Other things I might investigate: power steering fluid, brake fluid, maybe coolant- is there a certain mileage at which some of you change those automatically?

Probably waaaay to early but I am curious- when do people typically suspect rear shocks reach their life time and need replacing?

What else did you guys do at this mileage? Generally speaking, what else should be considered, even though not necessarily mandatory?

As for "mods", trailer hitch is high on priority list, and leaning towards an OEM hitch even though I believe they are pretty expensive- any of you installed one of those by themselves? I have a feeling dealer needs to "program" it into the ECU for the electrical harness to work properly- is that correct?

Oh, almost forgot- will change front and rear brakes myself soon, ordered Dura Go rotors and Bosch pads front, Brembo pads and rotors rear.

Thanks a lot guys!

Avoid stealerships for maintenance due to high costs compared to national oil change places like Valvoline (sit in car while you wait).

I'd recommend transmission fluid replacement before differential fluids. Then power steering. Plugs typically last 100K these days especially if iridium type.

Shocks would make a noise of some type while going over significant bumps when needing replacement.

I'd look into a 3rd party for the hitch to reduce costs compared to dealer. Not sure why ecu would need programming, there s/b a connector already available for hitch plug otherwise wiring will be needed.

Thank you CamPoo!

Just did a little more digging and it turned out this generation of RAV4 does not have hydraulic power steering, its electric so no need for fluid change.

As for the automatic transmission fluid, the reason I did not include it was that I did ask dealer about it and they said they recommend against it- apparently its a seal system and so lifetime guaranteed. Not sure how big of a grain of salt I should take this with as I do not know enough about it, so was wondering who in here did change it and at what mileage.

I doubt stick spark plugs are iridium, hence desire to swap before 60k. If they turn out to be iridium once out will keep the new ones for longer.
